Allowing foreign AI companies to mine our power, water and data and giving a freebie on copyright is a new form of colonialism says the Pope’s AI adviser. He may not be infallible but he sure has hit the mark here. We needed defences and guardrails not white flags.

The evidence is clear. It’s time for politicians to start backing it in and to stop states and territories torturing and traumatising children. This bill is a start on that but there is much more to do to prevent the harms of the racist justice system.

It isn’t good enough for the Federal Government to put this in the too hard basket and handball responsibility for protections for children against horrifically invasive strip searches back to the level of government responsible for their assault and traumatisation.

You may have missed it as the media was silent, but late yesterday the Labor-dominated committee looking into Lidia Thorpe’s bill to ban strip searches of children delivered its final report. The answer to overwhelming evidence of harm? Nothing that would stop a single search.

I have served country & community all my life, military, police, & 30 yrs paramedic. Now retired old & broken. But as much as I respect police & others for the job they do often in difficult circumstances, there is not a chance in hell, I would trust anyone who strip searches children.

Excellent ... a precedent, finally, that places the onus on the approving authorities. 'Proving' their liability will be another thing altogether so we had better get cracking on ensuring baseline studies are up to date - hard copies preferable.

It’s a sound tactic on Shoebridge’s part to invite focus on MSM’s shortcomings re explanation of global conflicts. Reporting on conflict would be responsible if it helped to understand the context but that would take work.
