Good call, Halloween-themed little toys.

Yeah, the kids in my neighborhood really liked them, but they haven’t released them since 2024. I still had enough left over to give them out last year, but now I’m out.

What are people’s favorite non-food item for trick or treating? We did the Pokémon trick or treat packs for a few years, but it looks like those aren’t being released anymore.

I got a little bit confused on the lore, but the main points came through. I did find it interesting to read the author’s note and see a similar origin to this story as T Kingfisher’s The Twisted Ones. Perfect October reading!

Spooky October Read #2! These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall, recommended by @d20diaries.bsky.social What a wonderful take on a haunted house story. I devoured this in a day. The characters are so vivid, and there are horrors both subtle and terrifying.

It has a large creepy mansion with a young woman in a white dress in front of it

The tagline is “I promise to tell the truth but first, I have to lie”

I really enjoyed this and it was the perfect start to my October reading!

Spooky October Read #1! Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher. I love everything I’ve read by T Kingfisher and this is no exception. It reads as a dark fairy tale but definitely has some horror elements. (The price Marra has to pay at the market is viscerally horrifying.)

It shows a woman from behind wearing a cloak made of thorns.

I have now read it, and it is outstanding. Even if one of the characters throws shade at Richmond.

I am really sad about Pac’s passing. He was always so much fun to watch wrestle, and it’s wild to see this news right after he had an amazing match on Saturday. I hadn’t even finished watching the PPV yet, and seeing him run in at the end was heartbreaking.

Benjamin Satterley, globetrotting wrestler known as Pac, dies at 40

Satterley, who earned the nickname the “Man That Gravity Forgot,” had wrestled on pay-per-view Saturday night.

I can’t wrap my head around it. He just wrestled such a great match last night.

Oh yeah, there should be way more animated shows altogether on there.

Honestly, I would argue for Bluey belonging on there. Sleepytime is one of the best episodes of TV I have seen, period.

I am so excited to get to see all of these wrestlers booked in US shows and promotions, and maybe even here in the Bay Area!

Kate Baker @katebakergm.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

I think Bojack Horseman is the only animated show on there, and while I don’t quibble with it being on the list, I think there are other animated shows that are just as good. They aren’t, however, about Serious Flawed Men.

I badly want a feud between Marina Shafir and Trish Adora.

Kate Baker @katebakergm.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

I am not hard of hearing, but I do watch with subtitles because we keep the TV volume pretty low while the kiddo is sleeping. I noticed with MASH in particular that there is a ton of paraphrasing of the actual dialogue.

"Kids don't read anymore." My circ stats beg to differ. The feedback I got back from Summer Reading really begs to differ. Kids are reading, and kids want to read more. The way kids are being taught means they don't read a lot of full books in class. But that doesn't mean they don't want to read.

That makes a lot of sense! We need to time it for flu season at preschool, lolsob.

Okay, friends, how are we timing flu/covid shots this year? I was planning October to make sure that my flu shot protection is strong through the holidays, but since Covid is rising right now, maybe it’s better to do it sooner?
