I didn’t quit bread, I quit ultra-processed bread. Bought a bread-making machine, make all my own bread, using only 5 ingredients, and feel better now. It’s not bread that’s bad, it’s factory-produced, ultra-processed, chemical-laden bread that’s bad.

Actually, they do, every time I go to their streaming app. “Recommendations”, “Here’s something we think you’ll like” etc., then you have to scroll through even more before getting to “Continue Watching”. Usually, they’re wrong and I don’t like their suggestions. But it does disprove your point.

4 things that made me far less scared of cyclists as a pedestrian: 1. Thinking "did they 'nearly hit me' or did they just surprise me?" 2. If neither, "was there any credible risk of harm to anyone or was I just being a cop about it?" 3. Being aware that hitting me would very likely hurt them.

Although flashing lights might draw your attention, it’s more difficult to track the bike’s course and speed. Because all you see is where the bike is at the moment it flashes, then next time it flashes it’s in a totally different place. And if you happen to blink at the wrong time…

Years ago, I had a car that had the indicator stalk on the right hind side of the steering wheel. It never bothered me, but when my ex borrowed it, he used the windscreen wipers to indicate turns.

Yes indeed! It’s certainly not perfect, but it is better than nothing, and is improving a bit at a time. The Chester Rd/Edge Lane junction needs improvements, and the lanes need to extend right through to Altrincham.

I was driving along Chester Road, Stretford the other day, when I saw a child cycling safely along the new cycle lanes. Alone, no adult with them. And I rejoiced, because this is precisely what the new lanes are FOR. 🙌 (Adults can use them too! 🤣)

Look, ebikes are great, but if you want to ride a 1500 watt monster, you're wanting to ride a motorbike. At least have the dignity of being honest about it! And motorbikes have no space on cycling infrastructure.

Not too bad. I’m in Manchester, which is probably a bit cooler than London at 30° but with a higher relative humidity. I have solar panels powering my fan and ice-maker. Plus I actually bought some shorts!!! Needs must. 😉

Indeed. I think it was about 2020/2021 when I realised that all the climate change effects that we were warned about 50+ years ago, were actually happening. For real, right now. And I got angry. Because our governments have had decades to take action, and they haven’t.

Sometimes I think about while bike bus is a great idea, what would be a greater idea is to have streets safe enough that kids could just bike to school by themselves without needing adults to organize and lead them.

Bicycles are hugely space efficient, which is why they make a lot of sense in congested cities. This video demonstrates why there aren’t traffic jams in bike lanes. Just imagine the traffic queues if every bicycle here was a car.

I came across there on a ride routed by an app, a round trip via Warrington. I never knew it existed before, and was astonished that when I crossed, I ended up so close to Wellacre school. I would never have planned a route that way myself! I love it when a ride turns into an exploration adventure.

Yes indeed, I have one nearby and use it at off-peak times. My local council has also installed some roadside charging posts near me too, and in other streets where there is a lot of terraced housing. Not quite as cheap, but still cheaper than petrol, and convenient too.

I drive an EV, charging on public chargers only, because I have no off road parking. It’s still cheaper than fuelling a petrol or diesel car. Admittedly, it could be made even cheaper, but even at the present time, it’s not as bad as you suggest.

There are loads of red light cameras in Manchester! And where they are, there are fewer red light jumpers. So it’s an effective deterrent
