Kelly Slater, 54, rolls back years with near-perfect surf in monster Tahiti swell
* American scores 19.06 to beat Gabriel Medina at Tahiti Pro * Eleven-time world champion tames Teahupo’o barrels Even at the grand old age of 54, the evergreen Kelly Slater’s mastery of surfing appears to know no bounds. Having been handed a wildcard for the Tahiti Pro, the American delivered yet another masterclass as he tamed Teahupo’o, one of the world’s heaviest waves, to knock out Gabriel Medina with a near-perfect heat score. Slater, who is still regarded as one of the best barrel riders in the world, has won the notoriously treacherous event five times before. And in pumping conditions on Tuesday that produced eight-to-10ft swell, the veteran rolled back the years with an imperious display as two deep barrels scored 9.73 and 9.33 for a heat total of 19.06 to blow his Brazilian opponent out of the water. "there are growing concerns about getting the show on the air by the fall. One staffer told me before Pelley's firing they believed there was a 50/50 chance the program will be ready for air after Labor Day." @status.news with brutal comments from actual TV news pros on Bari's murder of 60 Minutes:
Television veterans told Status that Weiss had erred significantly by attempting a radical overhaul of the program, only to throw it in disarray. In a span of just days, "60 Minutes" has lost the bulk of its roster of longtime correspondents. Anderson Cooper exited on his own accord, and Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega, and now Pelley have all been terminated. That's in addition to the fact that Executive Producer Tanya Simon and Executive Editor Draggan Mihailovich were also fired, in addition to other senior production staffers.

“She managed to destroy ‘60 Minutes’ in three days,” a staffer on the newsmagazine told Status after Pelley’s firing. “There should be some kind of medal for that.”

Television executives who spoke to Status were unforgiving.

“In the end, this is what Donald Trump wanted,” one television executive remarked to Status. “The Ellisons and Bari Weiss have delivered to Trump exactly what he asked them for.”

“The ‘CBS Evening News’ is weaker, ‘CBS Mornings’ is weaker, and ‘60 Minutes’ is essentially dead,” the executive added. “Good job, Bari.”
