The POPs Review Committee ended at 5.52 pm. Members agreed that global action is warranted for a group of brominated dioxins and furans. The committee opened in-depth reviews of some brominated flame retardants to determine whether they meet the POPs criteria. @brsconventions.bsky.social

Theoretically, it's possible to make millions of #foreverchemicals. To try to stay ahead of the curve, the Stockholm Convention created living lists of the PFAS groups banned by the Convention. POPRC is reviewing these lists, currently sitting at 864 substances. @brsconventions.bsky.social

Forever chemicals are used in farms and industries. POPRC is reviewing progress in phasing down PFOS. Most production and uses have stopped, except for use in some insect baits. It sounds small, but this use accounts for 40 tons per year. @brsconventions.bsky.social

The Chemical Review Committee often has to grapple with missing or incomplete information. For some documents related to banning pesticides, experts could not agree that there was enough information on farmers' exposure. Consideration was suspended in three such cases until agreement is possible.
