Finally watching that Battle of Olympus announcement video and it seems pretty coo-RIBBIT KING SPOTTED

Reiko Oshida, game artist and one of the key developers (along with Yukio Horimoto) for The Battle for Olympus for NES, explains how their company, Infinity, worked behind the scenes on dozens of games. The box art for those games scrolls by her on the screen, including the art for Ribbit King for the GameCube and PS2, which is a game about playing Frog Golf, or Frolf. The photo of the stack of curry boxes again. Most are in Japanese, but one in english claims to be "Hidagyu Gyusuze Curry" while another comes from "Apa Hotels & Resorts". At least one other curry is from Taimeiken, the same restaurant as this first beef stew.

First up is gonna be Beef Stew from Taimeiken, a third-generation western food restaurant in Nihonbashi.

A few months ago my friends got back from a long vacation in Japan and brought me several boil-in-bag curries. Now I'm gonna try them.

A stack of curry boxes, each with a bag made to be reheated in boiling water (rather than boxes of curry roux, which are more common in the united states). They are all different brands and styles.

There's an animated adaptation from the mid-80s Uzbekistan that a friend showed to us in Halloween Spookums groupwatch a couple years ago and oof, it sits with ya.

It is unsurprising to me that the most unaware and revisionist takes of the reputation of anime and Japan at large in the US in the 90s come from an Anime News Network contributor and someone who decamped to Japan right after.
