A dream visit to #GrimesGraves, prehistoric flint mines, at Lynford, near Thetford. Fascinating exhibition plus an opportunity to descend into a flint mine with a brilliant audiovisual. From about 2650 BCE, this site is breathtaking. 📷 2,3,4 are mine, 1 English Heritage. #Archaeology

A second beaver tooth pendant was found at Wigber Low in 1987, and is very similar in form. This second example is held by Museums Sheffield (number: 1996.716.6), and on display at Weston Park Museum.
From a cairn/barrow a Wigber Low, near Kniveton, Derbyshire. The barrow was excavated in June 1869 by J.F. Lucas, and has seen recent investigation from the University of Sheffield in the 1970s and 1980s. The cairn is from the Bronze Age but was reused in the Anglo-Saxon period, and there is also possible evidence of a Neolithic settlement beneath the cairn, as…

In Manchester this week a church was demolished by the council. So were the windows. It is very easy to remove stained glass windows. Costs - a cherry picker and two/three people a day or two. Would they demolish a museum with artefacts in place, a gallery with paintings on the wall? #stainedglass

The granitic hill, featuring the petroglyph and the church, also preserves additional rock art, including large-scale depictions of a lion, a possible rhinoceros and an elephant, as well as smaller images of cattle.

A life-size petroglyph stands over the church in Miseeda in northern Sudan. Who the figure represents remains uncertain, but researchers suspect it may depict an ancient Kushite ruler. In the 7th century CE, local builders constructed a Christian church directly around it.

The first women to become a licensed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright’s earliest protégé - the woman behind so many of most of the iconic drawings to come out of his practice. Marion Mahony Griffin has been given little of the attention that she deserves.

Erected in 1700, demolished in 1922. The church contained an oak altar and at the eastern end was a stained glass window representing Saint Peter The environment surrounding the church was criticized for being muddy; Church Street was not paved until 1760 and was the site of a weekly cattle market.
