I rarely, rarely say or believe that "you don't get it unless you've experienced it" but when it comes to NYS Regents, unless you've gone through NYS HSs or taught at the HS level, it's hard to understand what this shift means. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/14/n...

When it was 15 years ago and my relatives were sharing obviously-false posts I trained them to check snopes first. Now they are sharing obviously-ai-generated images and videos and...I don't know what to tell them, other than 'just stop sending me literally anything'.

My niece told me the thing to do is start singing a Disney song loudly. If it gets posted to social media it'll get taken down quickly. (I'm not sure how thoroughly that theory has been tested.) (Also I know a solution that puts the onus on the target is not a real solution.)

For number lines, I like an unlabeled number line on cardstock in a sheet protector that they can scribble on with a dry erase marker. Not exactly kinesthetic, but flexible and low-stakes.

Plus if they are cardstock, everyone can have their own copy to keep! FYI my students (undergrad PST's) really gravitate toward using the Polypad fraction strips after a quick demo. They're super intuitive.

IMO this is more defensible, because you don’t have to debate what makes the first step “correct”: Select all the expressions that are equal to the given. One is 40-3*2^3 and one is 30+10-3*8.
