Spent a solid 6 hours outside today in the front and back yards, doing spring cleaning. Very happy with the results. Not happy with the horrible gall wasp infestation in my lime tree. Some spots as big and long as my thumb!

Update: this worked! I bought a pair of black rain boots and spray painted them red! The talc gives the paint a flexible finish. I'm genuinely curious what the science is behind this.

Took the bus all last week because of seasonal crud. Convinced myself to try cycling all 5 days this week, and I'm greeted with this delightful weather. At least the pre-dawn views are nice with the tollway incense sticks, lit guardrails, and the Melburn Wheel poking through in the background.

View from my bicycle handlebars early this morning. The sky is still dark, and either sides of the green veloway are lit up around me with small, shoulder-height white lights. The Tollway looms overhead with the decorative waveform of orange stick lights and the Melbourne Wheel is lit up in a cadmium blue-green colour, barely visible between layers of road bloat. The bike path ahead of me is reflective with rain and a light splash from my front wheel is illuminated by my headlight.

SO MUCH BETTER. Just did a 30 minute ride around the neighbourhood in jeans and it was super comfy. Incredibly I encountered three drivers who had no idea how to act around someone riding on the road in the 15 minutes I spent on actual roads vs shared paths.

New bag for my pannier rack, for those commuting days I don't feel like wearing a lot of pockets. Forgot to ask about a new saddle today, d'oh!

Cost and reliability. My commute bus is at the mercy of peak hour freeway traffic. It could take 30 minutes or 2h30 minutes. Riding my bike is 50 minutes every time on safe paths. A round trip by public transit is $11-12, which is ridiculous to spend when just popping to the shops. Bicycle again!

It had to happen eventually... Glad I switched bikes when I got home. And the driver gave me his details. Incredibly lucky that I stayed upright.

My poor beach cruiser bike is all crunched up from a header with a ute. The front wheel is buckled and the fork is facing the wrong way.
