Whoa wow WOW - deeply personal, deeply TO (but not smug-like) @gemmafiles.bsky.social is a crazy good meta-fic story centered on Cnd film cults, silver nitrate, forgotten goddesses, BUT also gets heavy into parenting whilst damaged. Thrilling, scary, ominous, great on every front, thanks so much!

Oct List ✔️ghost NOT a haunted house, as Dr. Lesh explains, and still damn effective in unravelling the US 80s (so, still nowadays) from houses to tv, but it starts way before the spirits show up. Flailing and failing as parents bc the very ground you raise your family on is corrupted.

Oct List ✔️kiddos Thankfully Shuan doesn't make me motion-sick, so as frantic as things got even in the big chase/finale it was a funny time, plenty of great riffs on Frankenstein and intolerant Brits and being a sheep. Not as tense as the Were-rabbit but a fine addition to seasonal fare.

Shaun the Sheep - Beast of Mossy Bottom film.

Oct List ✔️franchise Mystical daggers + CGI villains told me - this is a wild comic book movie. Close to the last Final Des, going for max torment, max foreshadowing, max humour (ooh that KISS), awful folks being awful. Weird to get 2 of these in a year (a la Lee The Cronin Mummy) but goopy fun.

Oct List ✔️slasher ✔️meta ✔️new *Wolfie's Just Fine "A New Beginning" starts playing* I do get it, cept for me it's Gillian either as Scully or Bedelia, and a lil strange you didn't get a Rocky Horror moment. Replace the void w a screen and it'll reflect back, Co-ed Frenzy can't be all our favs.

Teenage sex and death at camp miasma film.

Oct List ✔️Morality/revenge Oozing atmosphere + small-town hate, way above what I'd expect for a stalk n kill flick. A heroic, supernatural "slasher" that's more about Hazelrigg's (and other normies) creepy self-serving villainy (that breakfast scene), gawd I wanted these bumpkins to get killed.

JustinallecBOO @justinallec807.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Oct List ✔️80s ✔️Tech ✔️Barbara Somehow missed this blast o fun, tho you could've easily pitched this to me as "boobs blood bots" and I would've easily watched it back then. Stellar cast, great party scene, absolute robot carnage, friggin lazer beams in the mall. Again, how'd I miss this?!?

JustinallecBOO @justinallec807.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Oct List ✔️50s ✔️Vampire ✔️Hammer Wouldn't be autumn without a few Hammers, so why not the granddaddy of em all. Lee's bloodmad eyes, Cushing's cold competance, Fisher directing, an awful lot o blood (for the time), oodles of castle atmosphere. Fog + full moons + fire and fangs galore.

Oct List ✔️ 2010s ✔️ Remake ✔️ Serial Killer Elijah casually going "oh I'm a horror fan ho hum" but jfc - this is what he meant?! Can't even weigh the "complicite" idea bc the POV is locked to this gruesome action, it doesn't give ya time to breath, and when you do you get a lungful of bug repellant.

Oct List ✔️ 40s ✔️ Were- First ever 40s film and wow did this impress - when I wasn't trying to figure the timeline or wanting to choke that shrink. Two incredible stalking scenes (the Lewton bus in the wild!), sublime use of light and shadow/negative space, and the exquisite Simone Simon.

Oct List ✔️formative Though I will always resent what they did to Stokely at the end - and really none of those hook ups really work - I still got a shade of the feeling when I first walked out of the $2 theater. Total gateway, the equivalent of a Fear St. novel. Get jacked up to save the planet.

JustinallecBOO @justinallec807.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Oct List ✔️2020s ✔️Monster Whackadoodle. That's what this film is. I would've RW for the bike chase scene alone but just every part of this is just a wee bit strange/off/wrong coming from the real world, so of course Schafer and Stevens are going to be at odds, I wouldn't have it any other way.

JustinallecBOO @justinallec807.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

New Scott Hawkins, folks. Somehow between Watership Down, Dr. Rat, and Erin Hunter's (many) books, BLACKTAIL is animal vengeance well deserved that stretches into brutal mythology. Just as big as Mt. Char in many ways but more damnning.

020

JustinallecBOO @justinallec807.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

Oct List ✔️ 70s ✔️ Alien A 'quiet invasion' so less pew-pew, instead: a non-stop paranoiac nightmare, an endless chase, affronting body horror, the gentlest reassurances to just sleep through it all. Cast is top-shelf, well-worn in this world. I wouldn't never trusted Kibner, not that it would help.

Oct List ✔️FF ✔️2000s ✔️Demon + Possession RW that really paled, still and esp compared to Blair Witch (only 8 yrs before, geez). Knowing how good bits worked meant I was mostly waiting for the ramping up in the last 3rd and eternally griping about Micah. I guess those sequels are still there.
