It's obvious that the first AI to achieve SuperIntelligence™ will subordinate humanity to its whims and lead the world forward, just as civilization's smartest humans have done for time immemorial. Hold on, I'm getting some new information here...

We really don't understand our own minds, and rather than accepting that maybe it's not for our generation to unlock the secrets of *billions* of years of evolution, we hope against logic and reason that the black box on our shoulders is susceptible to analysis, modeling, and replication.

I find it notable that dominant technologies are always attended by the belief that the progression of said technology will lead to the creation of mind. Frankenstein, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, AGI -- all are efforts to place the mind at the end of technological evolution. But it's just...not.

It's not that we *couldn't* replicate what our evolutionary history has given us from being embodied and embedded in the world. It's more that we don't know, physiologically speaking, what it is that makes us have minds, so we can't build it and put it in something else.

Honestly, I'd say the most disastrous decisions of Obama and Biden were not really holding anyone accountable for crimes committed under the previous administration. Obama wanted to "turn the page" on Iraq and the financial meltdown while Biden never put any urgency behind the January 6th cases

A little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children's letters–sometimes very hastily–but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, "Dear Jim: I loved your card." Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said: "Jim loved your card so much he ate it." That to me was one of the highest compliments I've ever received. He didn't care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.[21]

If every American household paid $20/mo for Claude, that would be ~$24B/yr. But BoA txn data shows 3% of US households pay for AI at a median rate of $20/mo, which is ~$720M/yr. If Claude is doing $60B in revenue, where's it coming from? institute.bankofamerica.com/content/dam/...

Virtually no one who cites a need to "beat China" in the "AI race" ever bothers to explain what any of that actually means: what the stakes are, where the finish line is, why we're racing in the first place, what "winning" looks like, etc. Largely vibes-based techno-nationalism.

if you had a family where your parents said “oh, that’s a good point, i was wrong”, you are poorly prepared for a court and courts full of people who *enjoy* saying “we’re not talking about this anymore, decision’s made” when you make a perceptive or accurate point.

Wonder why most Dems yelling about Trump profits from presidency don't mention crypto, the biggest contributor to his billions? Because they'd be catching strays from themselves. We can't make a national issue of Trump crypto corruption because stuff like this & Dems' grab for crypto PAC money.

One of my favorite ways to rage-bait efficient marketeers tis to point out that participating in Ponzis is rational so long as you believe you won't be left holding the bag. Similarly, when the rules of the game are "anything goes," cheating and graft are rational (and efficient!) strategies.

Treating any communication platform that algorithmically selects which content to put in front of a user as a publisher, and legally responsible for that content, is the screamingly obvious solution that will deeply upset maybe seven companies and make life considerably better.

It's plausible that more money was vaporized on this project than on any technology endeavor in modern history. In real terms, it's like a third of the total cost of the Apollo program, but with nothing to show for it.

Reminds me of when I was a young consultant for Deloitte doing a span-of-control project. I asked the Analyst how they were determining the appropriate SOC for each manager, and they basically said "4 is good, 6 is too many" and that was the extent of the analysis. Not convincing!

I feel like if you're going to predict that AI will replace a job, you should at least attempt to understand the job before making the claim. If someone claims that automation will replace fry cooks but can't describe fry cook workflow from punch-in to punch-out, you can really just ignore them.
