There are 100 of the world's largest institutional investors at this 2-day summit in Toronto. 33 of them are American. So what's not for sale to the United States? (Or anyone else?) #CdnPoli Source: www.benefitscanada.com/news/cir-new...
Image from Canada's National Observer. PM Mark Carney is seated at what appears to be a wooden desk. There are 4 Canadian flags behind him. He is wearing a blue suit, burgundy tie, and a white shirt. The caption reads:

"Canada is not for sale."

This quote was in response to trade negotiations with the USofA, and the demands Americans were making during talks.Screengrab shows an image of PM Mark Carney standing at a podium, with 4 Canadian flags behind him. The caption reads:

"Carney is seeking $1 trillion in investments. What will it take to land major deals at this week's summit?"

Screen grab from Toronto Star article, by Althia Raj. It reads:

"“A lot of the things (Carney) has done is to give himself and his cabinet sweeping powers and avoid public oversight,” she told the Star. “His whole major project agenda is ‘How can I keep American investors happy’ — because the largest contingent of people at this investment summit (in Toronto), 33 of the companies are American — so it’s still about keeping American investors happy while gutting environmental safeguards here.”

Just a timely reminder that freedom of the press is a fundamental, constitutionally protected, feature of our democracy.

The comments expressed by the Premier above are, unfortunately, shared by those at the highest levels in the Premier’s Office — a feeling of distain (sic) that is felt almost daily.

Why one Conservative MP’s push to probe COVID-19 vaccine injuries is prompting concern Via CTV News: www.ctvnews.ca/health/artic... #CdnPoli 🇨🇦
Screen grab from CTV News online article, reads:

‘If you’re going to do an inquiry, you have to do it fairly’

Allison – who on Thursday was joined on stage by a physician that advocated for patients during the pandemic to take the human and animal drug Ivermectin – isn’t planning to include testimony from doctors or experts who believe in the safety of COVID-19 vaccines.

“No, we basically want to hear from constituents across the country,” he said.

This, and the fact Allison, as an actively elected politician is intending to act as the chairperson, has prompted critics to question the intent.

“Anybody who believes they’ve been affected by taking a vaccine deserves to be heard and deserves compassion and support,” said Liberal MP and chief government whip Mark Gerretsen. “The problems with what Mr. Allison is putting forward is that it’s based on the premise of an official inquiry, but it’s not.”

“There’s no independent commissioner gathering evidence, and … it’s really billed as being nonpartisan, but all of his preamble to setting the stage for this is very partisan, where he talks about the (Freedom) Convoy and he talks about vaccine mandates, and Canadians being silenced,” he continued.

LEAST WANTED LEGO SETS: After the Downfall Yes, for many, the unicorn is a cool/fun element... however a nazi on a unicorn? Come on now, friends. 🤣 🤣
Book cover for the novel After the Downfall, by Harry Turtledove. A nazi is on a saddle, on a white unicorn. The unicorn is rearing up on its hind legs. The nazi has his right arm in the air, with his index finger pointing. In the background is a blue sky with white and grey clouds. Just barely inside the frame, on the left side, an army appears to be marching up a mountainside.

Screen grab of article from The Hill Times. It reads:

"In the popular Curse of Politics podcast last week, Teneycke offered his own reaction:

“When you elect leaders who are completely and utterly unaccomplished prior to entering politics and who have entered politics in their 20s, you are going to be very vulnerable to running against somebody who has actually done something with their life.”

“And why [Andrew] Scheer is still sitting in the caucus is the same reason why Poilievre will end up sitting in the caucus after he’s done being leader: because he is unemployable in any other job,” Teneycke added.

Nick Kouvalis, a top Progressive Conservative strategist in Ontario, blasted Poilievre on X for more than a week after the Conservative leader made his comments at the Stampede.

“@PierrePoilievre can go fuck himself,” wrote Kouvalis on X on July 6. “I’ve gone from being a big supporter, to being disappointed, but still a supporter. Now, he’s gone out of his way to make me his opponent. Idiot.”

So much love to #TeamCanada 🇨🇦 ⚽️ 🇨🇦
Team Canada Soccer Logo

World Cup Message from the Team:

Every story has an ending.
This one just doesn't feel like one.
Right now, the hurt is real. We came here believing we could keep writing history, and when you believe that deeply, the final whistle is
not easy To ассерт.
Over the last few weeks, we watched an entire country fall in love with this team. Streets filled with red. Living rooms became supporters sections. Kids who once dreamed about wearing the crest of their ancestral homes discovered a new dream.
We've always believed this was a football country.
Now, we know it is.
To everyone who sang, travelled, filled stadiums, wore the crest with pride, and believed alongside us... thank you. You carried us every step of the way.
History wasn't just made on the pitch. It was made in homes, schools, parks, pubs, and communities across this country. It was made every.
time someone chose to believe.
Our World Cup journey comes to a close.
Canada's football journey is only just beginning.
See you soon.

Very much worth your time to read, from @lindsaytedds.bsky.social Link 👉 deadfortaxreasons.wordpress.com/2026/05/12/p... #CanPoli
"There is a fundamental confusion at the centre of this update, and it is doing a lot of political work. The confusion is between universality and inclusion. Universality is the absence of formal exclusion — a program that anyone, in principle, can access. Inclusion is the presence of actual access — a program that the people who need it can, in practice, actually use. These are not the same thing. Conflating them is how you build policy that looks fair on the page and entrenches inequality off it. Tell someone the door is open and you have said nothing about whether they can walk through it. The structural barriers that determine who actually walks through any given door — savings, time, occupational segregation, medical certification, language, literacy, geography, disability, the cost of childcare, the burden of unpaid care — these don’t disappear because you’ve written “for all” on the lintel.

The Spring Economic Update is built on the premise that universality is inclusion. It isn’t. Let me walk through the receipts."

Screen grab from NYT article about Artemis II astronauts. Quote from Canadian Jeremy Hansen reads:

"Mr. Hansen admits he can be too laser-focused on his mission, forgetting to celebrate life’s wins. During the interview in January in Houston he said that to prepare for Artemis II he had gone on a vision quest with a Canadian Indigenous elder to grapple with a question: How can I possibly be happy when people are dying and suffering?

He finally came to an answer: “All you have to do is wake up every day and just use your energy for good.”

“You can’t fix all the problems in the world, but you can influence the little bit around you, and that’s just a simple recipe for allowing yourself to feel that joy,” Mr. Hansen said."

Big, beautiful borbs! We have a small flock around the house, seemed to arrive on Wednesday. Took a photo of a few beauties on Thursday. Love hearing them outside... they are giving me hope! ☀️
Photograph of a robin. The robin is on a very snowy ground. Behind the bird is shrubbery, and an outdoor solar light (stuck into the ground). The robin is facing left, and is very chonky, with a big, round breast. Spring? We can hope! A super-chonky robin sits on some wires, on an eaves trough. The robin has a very round, broad chest and is facing forward. The eaves are cream colour, and dirty from the winter. There is a downspout to the left of the robin. Above the eaves, are the bare branches of many deciduous trees. A lovely robin is standing on a lot of snow. in the background are some deciduous shrubs.

Postmedia receives millions in Canadian government funding. Postmedia ownership: 63% Chatham Asset Management (USA) 14% Leon Cooperman - billionaire hedgefund guy (USA) 17% Allianz Global Investors (Germany; Global Offices) Petition (closes 03 February 2026): www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...

Petition details:

Petition to the House of Commons
Whereas:

- Postmedia Network owns and operates more than 130 print and digital news titles across Canada, and is majority-owned (~66%) by the U.S.-based hedge fund Chatham Asset Management, giving significant control over Canadian media to foreign interests;

- Foreign ownership of media outlets raises concerns about editorial independence, potential bias toward foreign interests, and the ability of Canadian news to reflect domestic priorities and perspectives; and

- Protecting Canadian media from undue foreign influence is critical to upholding Canadian cultural sovereignty, public trust, and the functioning of democracy.

We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to:

1. Initiate a formal review of foreign ownership in Canadian media companies under the Investment Canada Act, to assess the net benefit to Canada and potential risks to national interests;

2. Introduce stricter rules to prevent foreign entities from holding controlling interests in Canadian media, ensuring editorial independence, protection of Canadian culture, and the integrity of public information; and

3. Maintain transparency and accountability by requiring publicly available reporting and disclosure of any foreign ownership stakes in Canadian media, so Canadians can be informed about who controls the news they rely on.

Image shows a screen grab of the poem 'The Shortest Day', by Susan Cooper. It reads:

The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper

And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
    Came people singing, dancing,
    To drive the dark away.
    They lighted candles in the winter trees;
    They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
    To keep the year alive.
And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake
    They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
    Echoing behind us—listen!
All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
    This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
    They carol, feast, give thanks,
    And dearly love their friends,
    And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
    This year and every year.
    Welcome, Yule!

This poem is available as a children’s hardcover with beautiful watercolor illustrations by Carson Ellis.

So this happened on Saturday. It was a beautiful day and our families surrounded us with so much love and support. 💕 You would never know I was dealing with a partial blockage of my stomach and esophagus in these pictures, and holy hell the things one can do when they have to! Bodies, man. 🤣
Photograph of Jennifer and her husband-to-be walking down the aisle and about to get married. Jennifer is wearing a long ivory gown, and is carrying a bouquet that contains ivory flowers, accented with Scottish thistles; the groom is wearing an Irish National kilt, Bonnie Prince Charlie jacket, white shirt, black bow tie, tartan fly plaid, sporran, and black Ghillie Brogues.Photograph of Jennifer fro her wedding day. What do you think Sara's last name was? Because I am stumped!
Image show a woman's name. The first name is legible as 'Sara', but the surname is a bit tricky to figure out. It begins with a 'C' and could be as long as 12 letters.

You’ll be visited by three spirits.

A few of my favourite pictures of George. He was such a good boy! The very best boy. 💔
George, the Bichon Frisé-mic, lying on a bright duvet. He's lying mostly on his back, tilted to the right, with his left-front paw in his mouth. His left ear is flopping backwards.George, the Bichon-mix, is lying on his back on a bed. He is on soft ivory and cream blankets, and is fairly spread-eagle. His private part has been hidden. 🤣George, the Bichon-mix, is lying on my bed, looking very sleepy. Behind him is a window, through which you can see houses behind. There is a vase of red tulips on the windowsill. There is also a small portion of a boookshelf visible, a lovely green plant, and an analog clock that reads 12 noon.George, the Bichon-mix, is sleeping on my bed. He has wedged himself between my body and left arm, and is straddling my arm with his hind leg. His front-left paw rests on my hand.
