Here’s a first look at our next book—the only one for this year, the only one like it. It’s a poetry anthology framed as a great big cross-country American road trip, featuring 100 place-based poems by emerging poets from coast to coast. More at juneroadpess.com/places-on-the-way!

What an amazing poem and what a rendering of 'ominous'! I'm so happy @mardery.bsky.social chose her gorgeous poetry to tell the stories that fill Level Watch (@juneroadpress.bsky.social, 2025). Just ✨😍✨! #poetry 📚💙
book on wooden surface. The cover shows watercolor landscape by Bronwen McCormick: the art is superimposed on a map and is a painting of hilly pinewoods in foreground and bluish mountains in the back, there is a horizontal burn-mark crossing the sky, like a burnt edge of a sheet of paper. The colors are very light and subdued.Little Lost Cove

From up on the cliffs, the forest unspools.
Gauzy haze in the distance, inscrutable blue
that resolves into green up close. Inside
those forest corridors, the woods come alive.
Creatures watch, camouflaged in the flora,
and the leaves begin to feel like fur—one
giant animal, one consciousness. The trees
bear witness as a woman kneels to pump
water from a shallow stream. She startles
the minnows awake, and a snake sunning
on a nearby rock lifts its head when the fish
scatter, fracturing the little trapezoid of light
where it trembles on the warming water.

The book on a wooden surface. Its cover features a linen postcard from the 1930s or 40s with a small town night or evening street scene with cars of that era and low buildings of small businesses. It is in color. The title and author name are along the upper and down the right edge.Revitalization Efforts: St. Mary's

The parish house now a showroom. Caskets propped
open like pianos and an offering of urns, your choice

of finish. Director's desk in the sacristy. Spare suit waiting
where the vestments once hung. They've restored

the floors. Kept the pews. Scrapped the confessional.
Sold the stained glass. The salvage dealer, lapsed

Catholic, brought a truck and latent reverence. Coaxed
out the panels: most of Christ's body, then his thorned,

haloed head. Then Mary of Magdala, fogged
at his feet, and Mary his mother, holding her own hands

in prayer. Anything, anything can come undone.

Book cover for The Beautiful Language of Our Disaster by Dale Going (Codhill Press): Poet Dale Going, an early survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, reflects with lyric grace and formal innovation on the reverberating trauma and long-term effects of illness, while connecting her rare cancer experience to the broader experience of the catastrophic world we’re all living in now. https://www.codhill.com/product/the-beautiful-language-of-our-disaster-by-dale-going/Book cover for Certain Shelter by Abbie Kiefer (June Road Press): Abbie Kiefer’s debut collection is a clear-eyed portrait of an aging mill town and a larger reflection on memory, making, and the significance of home. What sources of solace and stability remain amid the ruins of industry, after the death of a parent, while raising children in an uncertain time alongside the ghosts of the past? How do we reconcile ourselves to the inevitability of change and protect what remains? A transcendent exploration of breakdown and renewal, of vulnerability and endurance, of personal and communal responses to loss, this book takes up the question of how to find shelter and make one’s way in an altered world. https://www.juneroadpress.com/certain-shelter

Cover of Songs for the Landbound shows a detail of J. B. Kidd's copy of J.J. Audubon's Rose-Breasted Grosbeak: partial view of two mostly black and white birds, one with open wings, the other just the head, both about to pick a red berry from a conifer (probably American Yew), against a grayish-white backgroundNaming Absence

The ache at the incision, ghost stitch sewn
illuminant over the scar; loss hemmed
and let down and re-hemmed.
The hollow its won throat.
Rot's petal curl, collapse, pressed scent;
the fog's uneven dissipation; fall's
specific dusk. Shades of eggshell; an unbroken
breath. The boomerang released
for its returning; the mateless mourning dove.
A still life: pavement with evaporating rain.
