September's seabird of the month is the manx shearwater! Scotland's breeding manx shearwaters are mainly found on Scotland's Northern & Western Isles, but are best spotted round the coast in spring & autumn flying low over the sea as they migrate✈️ Have you spotted any manx shearwaters recently?

We are also incredibly grateful for the support from local businesses and individuals in helping provide supplies for those on the front line. The Loch Garten Nature Centre remains closed, and we would ask everyone to adhere to the requests from the SFRS including not to travel to the area.
A graphic listing the ways people can prevent wildfires:

Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code including never lighting a fire (portable fire bowls or BBQs) at times of high fire risk

Adhere to bylaws, such as the Cairngorms National Park fire management restrictions

Take all litter and food waste home with you

Fully extinguish cigarettes and dispose of them safely

Keep glass bottles and other reflective objects out of direct sunlight

If you spot a fire, report it immediately to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service on 999 and share your location (e.g using What3Words)

Nest 1 finally pulls one back in the fledging contest with a fine display on the wing from young 5K4 who has a proper fly around. The girls tend to fledge later than the boys as they are about 20% heavier and take longer to build up the wing strength to take off. #FoulshawOspreys #Nature #Cumbria

Did you know? Unlike many seabirds that fly over large distances in search of food, little terns tend to feed close to shore, near their breeding colonies. This unfortunately means they are even more vulnerable to disturbance and can suffer from declines in prey in the areas by their colonies.
