“Make accessible” a thing humans have been doing for as long as there have been humans.
In a January 2025 appearance on The Twenty Minute VC, a venture-capital podcast, Suno CEO and co-founder Mikey Shulman said that his company’s mission is to make the joy of music-making accessible to billions of people. A clip from this interview went viral among musicians — not because they applauded his sentiments, but because it enraged them.
“It’s not really enjoyable to make music now,” Shulman said. When asked to elaborate, he said, “It takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of practice, you have to get really good at an instrument or really good at a piece of production software. I think the majority of people don’t enjoy the majority of the time they spend making music.” The implication appeared to be that Suno offers customers the experience of making music without any of the tedium or expense involved in doing it the old-fashioned way. What could be better than that?

People are discussing how Halloween candy is so terrible these days. A reminder that alot of the candy we eat is made with women’s prison labor. Russell Stover’s factory in Kansas busses in 150 women a day via a convict leasing program to staff their candy factory.
Russell Stover has begun using prison labor to make candy in
Kansas
A Russell Stover candy factory in Kansas has begun hiring incarcerated workers through a work release program, Eoin Higgins reports in his newsletter, The Flashpoint. About 150 women are bussed in from the Topeka Correctional Facility and paid $14 an hour, but the prison keeps some of their wages for room and board, taxes, transportation, and other expenses. When all is said and done, they take home less than $6 per hour. These deductions are high, but elsewhere in the country, they're even higher: In our May series on prison

Something I shared in the Art Tips channel of my Discord server that seemed to resonate with folks. I hate to see people making an active choice to NOT create for fear of being derivative. Ya gotta do it anyway.

Seeing artists with ideas that they want to execute deliberately deciding *not* to execute them because "it's already been done by someone else"

Fuck that shit. Do it anyway.

You've gotta have fun with your craft. You wouldn't even know someone else already did something similar if it weren't for social media. You drew with reckless abandon when you were younger because you didn't have an innate fear of others' eyes judging you. Not acting is clogging your ability to create and preventing you from practicing much-needed self-expression. It's preventing you from your very reason for creating.

Who cares if someone already brought cake? Now there's two cakes. More for everyone.

My big hot take about all this social media buzz as an artist right now is that you guys need to go outside a bit more and build your reputation and communities in the real world. You have no idea what you'd be able to do if you don't say hello to your fellow neighbors.

#Finishtober This was actually something I started last year & never got around to finishing. Some of my favorite female spellcasters as a coven in the woods, inspired by the song "Black Magic Woman" by Fleetwood Mac (you might be familiar with the Santana cover). Happy Halloween!
Liliana Vess (Magic: The Gathering), Lulu (Final Fantasy X), Kuromi (Sanrio/Hello Kitty), Twilight Sparkle (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic), Ashley (WarioWare), Hatterene (Pokémon), Shadowheart (Baldur's Gate 3), Dark Magician Girl (Yu-Gi-Oh!), and Vivian (Paper Mario) as a coven of witcges in the woods, brewing a potion.

I had a professor who stopped mid-lecture once to lament how shitty English is as a field of study cuz most people in it just want to live in a basement, read books, and ignore people, but we’re forced to talk to people constantly and attend/conduct lectures. I felt so seen. I miss her.
