The Govt claiming we must drill more fossil fuels so we can use the tax revenues to fund the green transition is about as logical as a doctor telling you to smoke 2 packs a day to raise the money for your lung transplant You don’t put out a fire by pouring on more fuel 🔥#Jackdaw

Catastrophic misjudgement by the UK government. The financial arguments are bogus. They'd quickly make far more for the public purse if they created a publicly owned solar and wind power industry whose profits were for the treasury and to do more renewables. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...

The government says the approval will "heat millions of homes and protect hundreds of jobs". Green Party leader Zack Polanski calls it "climate vandalism".

True, but the nature of coalition is compromise so no group, even the dominant one, gets their whole manifesto implemented... and tribal purists loathe that.

I worry that we get to the campaign period for the next election, Reform are a solid 5-10 points behind the Tories, and some crypto chap bribes Farage and Lowe to stand down the vast majority of their candidates. It could flip around 90 seats to the Conservatives. Interim AV would prevent this.

New separated cycle lanes popping up on Shaftesbury Ave. All it takes is political will + the removal of some unnecessary parking spaces. London is becoming a cycling city, reflecting a generational shift that recognises driving in urban areas as slow, inefficient use of time.

I’m old enough to remember a few months back when the US administration complained Europe had relied on the US for defence for too long and needed to bolster its own defence capabilities. The law of unintended consequences continues unabated.

Superb point. Where the Brexiters failed is in durable consent. Who benefits from it their project & wants to carry it forward? Who in the next generations are thanking them for Brexit and championing it? No-one. If we get the UK into EU membership, it must be underpinned by durable consent.

Feels like not enough people are aware of how fully cooked the internal combustion engine is. My mum's old diesel Honda currently costs £120 to fill up, on which it'll do just under 300 miles. My sister's EV costs £6 for a full charge which will take her 280 miles.
