Today I've written to the Prime Minister and Health Secretary about the funding crisis facing hospices and palliative care. Hospices do incredible work, but they are being squeezed and it is patients and families who pay the price.

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

Watching Burghley horse trails via Eventing Scores live is a bit like tracking football scores on Ceefax in the olden days! Green box for each successful jump & a red one for an elimination. Fun fact, 5* events like Burghley or Badminton are tougher than the Olympics or the World Cup which are 4*.
Scoring leader board from Burghley CC15* horse trails showing the last five cross country runs with green boxes for each successful jump and red for unsuccessful ones plus the top 7 overall with their scores.

For anyone going to see Jay Z at White Hart Lane tonight - you are in for a treat. Maybe you’ll get Beyoncé, but we got Idris and Lauryn. We last saw Jay Z in 2009 when he opened for Coldplay at Wembley… he stole the show, sorry Chris Martin.

The pub opposite the Sizewell C entrance used to be a blacksmith’s forge a few hundred years ago. I had to have the name explained to me.

Unfortunately for Charlotte, the adjudication committee decides that, for the purposes of the under-nines summer reading challenge, the six volumes of proust's 'in search of lost time' is considered to be one single narrative, whereas each of Roger hargreaves' mister men' books is a distinct work, thereby awarding the library's 'top reader' sticker to her brother Toby.

The Prime Minister is right: palliative care must be fixed. Nearly 1 in 3 people miss out on palliative care they need, while hospices face increasing financial pressure with many cutting frontline services. Hospices need fair, sustainable funding to provide expert care to everyone who needs it.

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon
Title: My confidence in my understanding of the scientific theory.

A diagram where the confidence is marked in red on an otherwise white figure

Panel 1
"Before I got a book about it."
The figure is red up to about his stomach

Panel 2
"While I was reading the book."
The figure is reading a book. He is red up to his forehead.

Panel 3
"When I had finished the book."
The red level has dropped to around his mouth

Panel 4
"One week later."
Now it is at his chest.

Panel 5
"When I try to explain it to somebody."
The level is back at stomach level.

Panel 6
"When they ask a follow-up question."
The red is so low we can barely see it.
