Very cool that the Atlanta city council decided to neuter its otherwise quite good (but unenforced, due to a combination of incompetence and fear of lawsuits) short-term rental ordinance such that it essentially doesn't even need to exist anymore 🙄

Atlanta City Council clears way for short-term rental enforcement
For years, Atlanta struggled to create workable regulations for short-term rentals and how to tax and license apps like Airbnb and VRBO.

There is an extensive and growing body of academic & journalistic literature that shows large corporate landlords have a worse record on affordability, maintenance, evictions and depressing homeownership. A sampling of those sources is available here: www.endthecorporatetakeover.com/the-problem

There are essentially three things that most Americans are currently united in their hatred of: corporate landlords, data centers and Flock cameras. These certainly aren't the only problems we face, but if you're a politician and aren't centering these concerns you're out of your depth.

Can anyone give me advice on how to become a consultant for film and TV so that they don't make egregious mistakes when talking about academia? A little would go a long way

NEW: Most renters are cost burdened, spending at least 30% of their income on housing. Congress should work to pass a universal cap on annual rent increases at 3% or .75% of the local Consumer Price Index, whichever is lower. climateandcommunity.org/research/nat...

Don't be fooled by the rumor that AMC is starting showings of The Odyssey at the stated time. It's just a ploy to make sure you sit through the full 30 minutes of previews, as I am currently doing thanks to my gullible wife.

I would love for any of the YIMBY dipshits who refuse to acknowledge the potential existence of housing market concentration to define for me anything they might consider a useable proxy for a housing market or submarket. Best I can tell they don't think these exist either?

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act will have essentially no impact on "institutional investors" (i.e., corporate landlords) in the SFR market The targeting of build-to-rent wouldn't have been my 1st (or 5th) choice for how to rein in these corps, but it was the only SFR provision with any impact

This line from the NYT piece about college radio is deeply ironic to me in particular, as one of my recurring nightmares involves being mortified at forgetting how the radio equipment works and leaving extensive amounts of dead air time www.nytimes.com/2025/11/20/s...
Screenshot of New York Times article that reads "For the people who make it run, the random and sprawling appeal of having to fill hours of airtime is the draw. In an era of polish, perfection, and increasing corporate consolidation, these student stations can feature seconds or even minutes of “dead air.” But when it’s working, between each set of unusual and handpicked songs, an actual human being with knowledge and heart will explain why they care — and why you should too. The results can be deep, surprising, incredibly human, and wildly satisfying."
