car drivers have become so feral that they're killing literal professional cyclists on "closed" courses

good example of the difference that normalizing by population makes - California looks bad, but net Gen Z leavers are the same proportion of California's population as net Gen Z arrivers are of New Mexico's (0.1%), just as NJ's net leavers are the same proportion as SC's in-movers (0.4%).

I think students would enjoy the little whiteboard too for doing presentations, plus you can face the class and not cover yourself in chalk like I do :)

I have used the document viewer camera with a small whiteboard before instead of my terrible chicken scratch on the board and it was cool, I feel like it could be quite fun to run a whole lecture that way with physical images and texts.

yeah it's impossible to overstate how indifferent/hostile people have become to traffic signals out there

Do you think a direct intersection would be safer or better prevent driver impatience here? I can think of many ghost bikes I’ve seen at intersections with no geometric obstacles to high speed. Those aren’t safe for anyone either.

Crosswalks are set about 15-20 feet from the start of the rotary, so there is typical room for peds to cross behind the car that is waiting to go while in the other direction an oncoming car will have exited the rotary but not yet accelerated.
Aerial view of a traffic circle depicting pedestrian crosswalks placed roughly 15-20 feet from the entrance/exit points of the circle.

I'm with this, I currently live on a street with roundabouts and while I'm very disappointed that the retrofit did not include bike lanes, the roundabouts function very well to moderate speed and car-ped conflicts

This is embedded so much more deeply in conservatism than just MAHA. Conservative thought sees all credentials and expertise as simply protectionist cartels, but conservatives don’t want to get rid of cartels, they want to *be* the cartels.

Data Centers Are Driving an Alarming Gas Power Expansion in the US
There’s no clearer sign of the data center boom than rampant gas projects that have been proposed or that are already under construction.

My lukewarm take on 1.5 stories is that climate is only one of many reasons to phase out fossil fuels, and probably not in the top two reasons for most people. We should do it regardless, to save millions of lives per year from air pollution, reduce exposure to high and volatile fossil prices, and..
