No on Prop 45 - We helped pass CEQA streamlining for electric rail (AB 2503/SB 71), but Prop 45 does nothing new for transit while making it easier to build sprawl and highways. It explicitly does not apply to CA High-Speed Rail. Reject 45 and come back with better, more targeted CEQA reform.

If I try to tell the average person that Metrolink is nuking service during record-high gas prices because the OCTA and Metro CEOs hate the Metrolink CEO, they probably won’t believe me, but it’s true

From electric vehicles to “DEI bike lanes,” transportation has become a partisan battleground. But 50 years ago, Washington came together to save transit systems, address deadly car designs, and reduce vehicle pollution. Much has changed—and it’s not just MAGA. My exploration (gift link) 🧵

Why US Transportation Policy Became a Partisan Battleground
Republicans and Democrats keep clashing over what was once a comparatively nonpartisan issue. When did getting around turn into another thing for Americans to fight about?

Congrats. It’s so validating to see the effort pay off and improve (also great lighting at your gym!). Keep going!

It’s way too early to think about AI here. This decline is the death of cable, the end of the streaming wars, and the consolidation of major studios, namely Disney/20th.

Not like I was trying to get somewhere! Though I have no idea if this his accurate since the D line left about a minute after I took this picture.

I second the ortlieb back rollers. They’ll be able to handle most grocery runs, and they are indestructible. I’ve had mine since 2007! Sadly can’t help on the kid department.

I think Parks and Bob’s Burgers are two shows that show you can be very funny while being fundamentally sweet. It was very smart of the Parks crew to lean into that to differentiate from The Office, though that show also got a little soggy too

I guess that's why you didn't put Parks in your top ten? Too nice?

On one hand, I feel like hoping for death just corrodes the soul and a look of people respond to the question as such, but when It Happens it will be so important to celebrate loudly and vocally as a sort of cleanse and push back against the urge to “respect the dead”

The article mentions a 2023 report of missing parts but also the Hong Kong diversion, the main focus of the article, happened this summer per the 1st sentence: “Sensitive F-35 fighter jet technology was unexpectedly diverted to Hong Kong this summer”

Last observation of the gold runner. We terminate at Bakersfield, and not all doors open to allow passable to exit!?! Conductor said some doors are bolted shut! (Also nearly everyone is boarding the connecting bus to LA! Huge market being underserved obviously)

I do like that the Robo announcement cuts off before saying the train number, so at each stop it’s just “welcome to train”

I particularly like the old baseball pennant-like logo of the old name. Gold Runner’s logo is a bit more aggressive.

How anyone can prefer a Robo voice for train/public transit announcements is beyond me. The announcements on Amtrak Gold Runner are particularly stilted (and still call it the San Joaquins)

Can’t escape car violence in our national parks either. Yosemite basically does ghost bikes for bears now.

Leg 3: YARTS from Merced to Yosemite Valley! A decently sized crowd (bus around half full) but we weirdly boarded in the middle of the driveway, not with the bus at the curb.

Why are these seats less comfortable than the bus? Are theee trains normally busy enough to warrant skimping on comfort?

Leg 2: Bakersfield to Merced via Amtrak Gold Runner/San Joaquin service. Brand new(ish) train that I have basically all to my self. No cafe car, but a rinky-dinky “snack station.” The bike rack’s making creaky noises that worry me.

This kind of wanton disregard for bike lanes is sadly all too common. You’d think there would an easy way to report this scofflaw, but no! 311 had a “after hours” pre-record ready to tell me LADOT’s phone number. The folks at the adjacent business said the car was parked here for 3 hours.

It's always the same two things: parking and "small town charm." It's never hard to find a spot with several parking lots and street parking. How can we be a small town with an 8 lane arterial down the middle? We're literally in LA sandwiched between downtown Glendale and Old Pasadena.
The route won’t deliver riders directly to an Olympic venue but has been lauded by transit advocates as a car-free alternative for people to travel between the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. For years, though, many residents and business owners in this enclave of Los Angeles have questioned the designs, believing they will bottleneck traffic in the area, hurt small businesses when already limited parking becomes even sparser and degrade Eagle Rock’s small-town charm.

I can't believe this article was written in 2026. You would never know that there was a huge community movement FOR the BRT, FOR preserving separate bike and bus lanes (and also preserved the most parking). I thought I was done hearing from Weaver.
