@JonathanMosen Thanks. I've developed a particular rhythm when dictating which doesn't suit iOS 27 very well at the moment but I suppose I will adapt. Particularly if there are other dictation improvements to work with.

In iOS 27, I haven't found a way to disable automatic punctuation while dictating text and it's driving me up the wall. Has anyone managed to turn this off?

My Siri AI review: I asked it to set the value of a time picker that isn't accessible to VoiceOver, but it can't interact with elements on the screen. I asked it to locate a book on the StoryGraph that I was reading about on Wikipedia in Safari, but apparently the StoryGraph app doesn't […]

In iOS 27, I can't seem to drag rotor items around in VoiceOver settings. I double tap and hold on the "reorder" handle for the relevant thing, move my finger up or down, and nothing happens. Is there a workaround for this? Moving things one by one is going to take me all night.

I've never had cause to used what3words for anything and rarely see it mentioned in Mexico. But "applauding astonishing compression" (for a package forwarder location in the US) is a great one.

I always get a feeling of anxiety when logging into my investment account. Like I shouldn't be here; this is the place for people who know what they're doing with money and have more of it. Financial empostor syndrome or something. Or just anxiety disorder.

Related to accessible gaming, it definitely bothers me a little how overloaded the term “accessible” is, especially in blindness spaces. “Accessible gaming” does not solely mean “blind accessible”, yet the Accessible Gaming wiki is basically blind central. Blind people have dramatically […]

I recently had Libation (great software) replace a couple of hundred books with higher bitrate versions. It decided to do this by... Placing the files next to the lower bitrate versions and placing "(1)" at the end of the filenames. Which is one way to go about it I suppose. Still great […]

I may end up switching from Mona to FastSMRW on iOS based on the "Move extra mentions to the end of replies" setting alone. I hate front loading many usernames in my replies but it isn't practically feasible to avoid it in Mona.

I feel bemused when people compare the ubiquity of AI to how the blockchain was supposedly crammed into so much software. Which software are they talking about? I don't know about you, but I've thus far managed to lead a completely blockchain-free existence. As far as I know, it wasn't added to […]

With that out of the way, I'm moving onto releasing version 10.0 of my text editor. This release resolves a security issue for Windows XP users connected to a NetWare 6.5 domain controller with their system date set before April 15, 1982. There are no other changes.

@fastfinge Exactly. My assumption is that the training data was full of projects taking a similarly hand wavy approach, inexperienced vibe coders don't know to question it, and it turns out not a lot of supposedly real devs cared about it anyway. So SemVer might be dead. Long live the next […]

If the way LLMs bump version numbers in vibe coded projects is anything to go by, people have largely failed to use semantic versioning as intended. A patch release wasn't meant to carry a note like, "and it's a big one," not that I think most software projects should use SemVer in the first place.

@fastfinge On one hand, I think NVDA add-on code quality is through the floor. Some add-ons don't even store things in the NVDA config to start with, and a "why do X when Y is easier?" attitude is rife. On the other, I'd be pretty annoyed if I copied a portable copy of my NVDA to a new machine […]
