Have any fellow Zig programmers encountered any repos that have a great experience around compiling example applications? I'm imagining something like an examples folder that has a folder for each example with a main.zig, and a setup where I can run "zig build example folder_name". Is that possible?

One of the biggest difficulties in transitioning from TS to Zig has been string manipulation. I genuinely had NO IDEA how difficult low level string (and array) manipulation was. I’m surprised there isn’t anything in Zig’s standard library for string manipulation (like rust)

The Remote - SSH plugin for VSCode/Cursor is so nice. You get to treat a folder on your remote server as a local folder. If you edit a file and save it is transparently updated over SSH. If you open a terminal it automatically connects via SSH to the folder you chose when connecting.

Finally have a bit of a break from the absolute chaos of my day job and am getting back into my Zig desktop development projects! I've been trying so so hard to create some sort of event loop API that works for both Win32 and MacOS, and AppKit makes this an absolute nightmare

Scrapped everything, rewrote my bindings for the macOS sdk, Win32, and Vulkan. No more memory leaks, no more segfaults, significantly less allocation, everything is tested. I now have identical triangles rendering on both of my target systems, life is good

Rewrote my Vulkan Zig bindings to be a little more idiomatic. They’re nowhere near perfect, and I wish I could figure out how to generate them based off of the headers (like other bindings do), but I’m genuinely very happy with the DX thus far. Definitely gotta write some docs though

It’s incredible how simple an API can be when it only has to deal with a limited subset of hardware. I was able to create my first triangle in Apple’s Metal API in around 100 LoC. That same triangle took me closer to 1000 in Vulkan. Absolutely insane, but understandable given Metal is only for Apple

I love the revamping of Game Developer but am tired of all this engineers first - this is what games are - stories. game != engine (for you nerds) Also... the every game has to be a totally new thing, that new mechanics are required versus a good version of something is just lazy and exhausting.
