🆕 review with @jpunfried.bsky.social out in Nature SMB. Direct roles of lncRNAs in transcriptional activation. What do we understand about how lncRNAs lure Pol2 and set the stage for RNA production, and what do we still miss? www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Direct roles of long non-coding RNAs in transcription activation - Nature Structural & Molecular Biology
This Review discusses how long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) control transcription activation by RNA polymerase II, including how they are produced at active enhancers or chromatin-domain boundaries and ac...

That is very interesting! I wonder if mRNA decay factors play a role in this process. For instance, Xrn1 was identified early on in yeast to function in strand exchange & homologous recombination. Pat1 interacts physically with topoisomerase 2 in yeast.

I’m thrilled to share a collaborative story from @Mendell_lab and Jan Erzberger labs, led by postdoc extraordinaire Xiaoqiang Zhu. We showed that in addition to their canonical decoding function, tRNAs play a key role in regulating mRNA stability during translation! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Specific tRNAs promote mRNA decay by recruiting the CCR4-NOT complex to translating ribosomes
The CCR4-NOT complex is a major regulator of eukaryotic messenger RNA (mRNA) stability. Slow decoding during translation promotes association of CCR4-NOT with ribosomes, accelerating mRNA degradation....

In this review @gracebower.bsky.social & I discuss recent evidence showing that, unlike canonical enhancers, long-range enhancers located hundreds of kb from their targets rely on additional mechanisms to ensure robust gene activation during mammal development. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
