Let's turn the Seattle city-owned "Jackson" golf course into a free public green space! Let’s also house all our neighbors and take care of the salmon, beavers, orcas, & animals who share our water. Learn more at jp4all.org, a project of @ecocityaction.org

Seattle Pro-Housing folks: submit a Letter to the Editor of no more than 200 words to be considered for publication in the Opinion section. Send to: letters@seattletimes.com Read Zoning: Righting a wrong www.seattletimes.com/opinion/lett...
I came of age in Seattle during a time of social change. Civil rights, women’s rights, the anti-war and environmental movements all came about because people like me fought for a world that was more just, more peaceful and more green.

Having just celebrated the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., I am reminded that housing is also a socialjustice issue. Many of our neighborhoods in Seattle were developed with restrictive covenants in place that prohibited sales to nonwhite residents. These were followed by redlining restrictions. Our neighborhoods were shaped by these hateful policies, and it is time we fixed that through allowing more housing and more types of housing in our neighborhoods.
The less restrictive zoning policies that are proposed in the One Seattle Plan are an important step toward redressing this shameful part of our history.
