If you're in these states, *TODAY* is deadline to register to vote. Arizona, Arkansas Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas. Even if you think you've registered: doesn't hurt to check! And there's a lot happening across them. A thread with stakes on each. ⬇️

Media studies folks: who would you say are the big names in digital studies from a media studies perspective? I'm looking for currently active scholars

in my media history classes I show them an image of a TV set like the one I grew up with, along with a page of listings from a TV Guide. They have to try to figure out 1) what they're looking at and 2) how to use these two items to watch Cagney and Lacey

for the uninitiated, a Yorkshire pudding usually accompanies the meal and is about the size of a biscuit (US usage)

this was not even the subject of the previous post, but please find attached this meal I just ordered in a pub that turned out to be the world’s largest Yorkshire pudding

preemptively sad about going home next year and not being able to eat the many delicious versions of savory-vegan-filling-in-crust you can get here nearly everywhere

any time I do math toward an argument (here the number of Inner Sanctum plays that have extant recordings) I remember the time in grad school when I wrote a film paper for a lit prof and said “this sequence consists of X number of shots,” to which the prof commented “source??” I…counted?

The framing and close-ups in this movie!! nerve-wracking in a way very few films can pull off

when people here are trying to pinpoint which part of the city you live in, the landmark they ask for is your nearest pub

this is one of my favorites to teach

I thought the films were super interesting and have wondered about the show…based on this description, I may just have to watch it

Would you know whether Sheen was a known figure amongst Catholics before the beatification? I have come across him in my research--one of the horror shows I work on got dropped by their sponsor and replaced with his show when parents complained about the first show being too scary

I know of this guy because the sponsors of one of the horror programs I work on dropped that show in favor of "Life is Worth Living" after too many parents complained about their kids watching inappropriate subject matter

Is this the first sainthood-by-television?

so is the host of Inner Sanctum trying to sell you liver pills, so that works out

academia may seem glamorous but some days my job is painstakingly attempting to transcribe poorly preserved recordings of eighty-five-year-old commercials for laxatives

I definitely recommend it—great little conference where you get to talk to everyone, and Newcastle is a cool city

He gave a version of this as a keynote at the Horror Studies Now conference in May!
