I am glad that Oxford put out a statement regarding the death of Jason Arday: www.ox.ac.uk/news/2026-08... It is unfortunate, but understandable, that it does not address or criticises the absurd media campaign, rather a manhunt, Professor Arday was exposed to, nor the obvious racist undertone.

Also, to be specific here (because it does matter) DeepSeek is *not* open source — it’s open _weights_ with the difference being that you can run it on your own machine with the code, but you don’t know what material exactly it was trained on. An important distinction, worth emphasizing.
