Title is “Niou's superpower” written by Peter Sterne. Story reads: Former Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou was the first openly autistic state lawmaker in the country, and a new group called "Neurodivergent Socialists" held a fundraiser last weekend to support her state senate campaign. The low-key fundraiser was hosted by former Assembly candidate and Neurodivergent Socialists cofounder Josh Arnon. Famous socialist Cynthia Nixon was in attendance, and Jumaane Williams - who has Tourette's syndrome - sent in a video praising the new group and Niou.

Story continues: Nixon told the small crowd that Niou's autism was a "superpower" that made her much less likely than other politicians to prevaricate and mislead. And Niou recounted an anecdote from her time in the Assembly when another lawmaker called her to discuss her position on a controversial issue. At one point, she said, the exasperated lawmaker told her to "¡ust read between the lines." "I can't do that," she responded. "I'm autistic!"

On May Day, I was arrested with @chuckforqueens.bsky.social by the NYPD Strategic Response Group for participating in a demonstration with @sunrisemvmt.bsky.social outside the NY Stock Exchange. We called billionaires clowns and demanded they give their fair share instead of killing our planet.

With PACs spending $450,000 on Carl Wilson and $25,000 on Lindsey Boylan, this was very likely the most expensive Special Election in NYC history. In order to have democratic elections, we must eliminate Super PAC spending, especially at the local level.

While I personally oppose both buffer bills, I am pleased that Mayor Mamdani will veto the one without a veto-proof majority. Severely restricting protests outside “any place where educational programming takes place” would have been disastrous, especially in times of rising fascism.
