The combination of a really uninspiring and sometimes ugly art direction for the Ocarina remake and it looking to be a 1 to 1 remake has made it an easy pass for me, I was really hoping we’d get a remix on OOT the way we’ve had with the Resi remake games which I’d consider a gold standard of remakes

It’s so surreal to be utterly unmoved by the GTA6 trailer, graphically and technically it is very impressive, but the actual act of playing the game looks.. I just don’t get what the excitement is about other than it looks expensive and impressive? 💀

A lot of people (accurately) point out that premium video games are cheaper today than they were 30 years ago thanks to inflation, but discussed less often is how much bigger the margins are for game companies now that sales are 80-90% (soon to be 100%) digital. No more retail or packaging costs!

my one big takeaway from this years pile of Showcases is that Unreal Engine 5 has co-opted or sort of, I dare say, polluted the visual language of games, where nothing stands out theres a kind of mediocrity that comes with being "photorealistic I guess". PBR substance everywhere, but not distinct
