Joseph Scott @josephscott.bsky.social · 23/09/2026One more 👍 - the progressive rendering that I've seen from both AVIF and JXL look good, with those widely supported I'd ditch any other color blur pre-fill approach. #webperf 010

Joseph Scott @josephscott.bsky.social · 17/09/2026At 90% of AVIF bytes and 87% JXL bytes. The detail curve seems very different for their progressive rendering. AVIF provides a better detailed image early at the expense of staying fuzzy longer and JXL gets something fuzzy early and provides more detail earlier. At this for this sample case. 000
Joseph Scott @josephscott.bsky.social · 17/09/2026That is kinda my point, at different amount of bytes it alternates between which one looks better. At 2.8KB JXL, 7KB AVIF, 55KB JXL, 90KB JXL, 133KB ( 50% of JXL bytes ) JXL. In that particular image AVIF looks very noticeably fuzzy up to 99% of the AVIF bytes and at 100% the detail snaps in. 100
Joseph Scott @josephscott.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I played with the progressive rendering tool - jpegxl.info/resources/pr... - and either one could look better depending on the point in time in the rendering you picked. Each format has made different trade offs. For example - 100
