USCIS seeking to build a criminal intelligence operation is part of an ongoing process to make the agency another “enforcement” arm of the U.S. deportation and incarceration machine. We should all be disturbed by it.

The number of women held by ICE has increased by 31% since 2024. The deportation agenda is driving the expansion of the criminal legal system, and women are no exception.

Reading Brianna Nofil’s fantastic book “The Migrant Jail” & this is what she has to say about immigration detention already in the first half of the 20th century

Towns and cities throughout the United States recognized detained migrants as a racialized source of financial capital; working with the immigration service became a way to bankroll carceral expansion without requiring the approval (or even the tax dollars) of voters.

Boy Columbus would have loved ICE’s latest plans to shackle immigrants and ship them off to other countries in military boats. Genocide and forced displacement persist as signature tools of the settler colonial state—as do organized struggles against them. Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

A new statement from @maketheroadny.bsky.social says that Oscar Belgal, the man immigration agents shot in NYC last week, hasn't eaten since Thursday and still has the bullet in his neck. He urgently needs surgery, but instead, the government has him locked up in solitary.
New York, NY –– The Legal Aid Society and Make the Road New York, counsel for Oscar Belgal, issued the following joint statement in response to the deplorable conditions Mr. Belgal has endured while detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, including solitary confinement, lack of access to food, and inadequate medical care despite a bullet remaining lodged in his neck and his urgent need for surgery:

“Since Mr. Belgal was shot in the neck by ICE agents on Thursday, with his five-year-old child in the car, he has endured horrific conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a facility federal judges have described as ‘barbaric’ and ‘inhumane,’ where officers have been characterized as ‘contemptuous of human life and dignity. All the while, a bullet remains lodged in his neck.

“Mr. Belgal is living through an unimaginable nightmare. While he is currently in solitary confinement, a bullet remains lodged in his neck, the left side of his face is numb, and he can barely hear out of his left ear. Doctors have told him he urgently needs surgery, but that the procedure was too dangerous to perform Thursday evening without a specialized surgeon present. Although he was instructed to return to the hospital this week, he has been left in the dark about whether that surgery will even happen. He is also suffering from a shoulder wound caused by shattered glass during the incident.“Rather than receiving the urgent medical attention, care, and compassion he desperately needs, Mr. Belgal reports being confined to a solitary cell, where he is forced to relive the terrifying moments of being shot. He says he has not eaten a single meal since Thursday and has been told that the only water available to him comes from a bathroom sink.

“The deliberate indifference Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents showed toward Mr. Belgal when he was shot on Thursday, and the treatment he has endured in detention since, are further examples of the cruelty and disregard for basic human dignity that have long defined this agency. We will continue to fight for Mr. Belgal’s immediate release from detention and to ensure that he receives the medical care, due process, and basic human dignity to which he is entitled under the law.”

There seems to be zero accountability for ICE officers' illegal arrests, uses of force, etc. Nothing. If a small percentage get lawyers and win a habeas case, they're still winning the numbers game. Just keep doing it and ramp it up.

Brenden Cuni's violence is emblematic of ICE's behavior nationwide. He also lies to federal judges about obtaining federal warrants. See Chaglla v. Maldonado, No. 26-cv-4308, 2026 WL 2529494, at *2 (E.D.N.Y. Aug. 27, 2026). Abolish ICE.
Highlighted text from legal decision stating: Not long after SDDO Cuni's declaration was filed, a video of the arrest from a nearby doorbell camera surfaced, and the footage largely contradicts SDDO Cuni's declaration. Although there are many discrepancies, the relevant differences are that (1) SDDO Cuni did not issue or obtain an arrest warrant (judicial or administrative) before arresting petitioner, and (2) the entire encounter lasted less than 3 minutes, as opposed to 20. Petitioner's counsel brought the video to respondents’ counsel's attention, and respondents have doubled down. Highlighted text from legal decision stating: SDDO Cuni also attempted to reconcile his misstatement about issuing the warrant before arresting petitioner: In [the original] Declaration, I stated that I issued the I-200 ... prior to arresting Petitioner. I should have clarified that, because the I-200 forms were inside my parked vehicle, which was across the street from where we encountered Petitioner, I first put handcuffs on Petitioner and escorted him across the street to the vehicle. At that point, once at my vehicle, I contacted the Law Enforcement Support Center, which confirmed the information I received via my Mobile Fortify search: i.e., Petitioner lacked immigration status. I then issued the I-200. To do that, I took a blank I-200 from the inside of my vehicle, which only had my electronically printed name and title on it. I completed the form, by hand, on the street. At 6:52 p.m., I took a photograph of the filled-out I-200 before it was served on Petitioner.
