.@biorxiv-evobio.bsky.social rejected my last two preprint submissions, arguing that they were not relevant to evolutionary biology (one was published in Theoretical Population Biology, the other is under R&R at Journal of Theoretical Biology). 🫠 So I'm back to submitting preprints to arXiv.

What is Southern Europe? Three main lines divide the Europes into two parts: the tomato/potato line, the wine/beer line, the olive oil/butter line. If you are simultaneously on the tomato, wine, and olive oil sides of these lines, you are in Southern Europe. Otherwise, you are in Northern Europe.

The number of MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship applications in 2026 (21,627) has more than doubled since 2024 (10,360 proposals) and more than tripled since 2022 (7,044). Stating the obvious here but this is not sustainable.

This is the far more likely pathway for how AI will end us all, btw. Not via some superintelligent swarm of paperclip maximizers, but by a cascading sequence of dumb fuckups driven by human beings who have arranged things to be fast-moving and catastrophically fragile while also being really lazy.
