This, but also at the same time we need to let habitability not be the only motivator for exoplanet studies and move into population level studies. There is so much to be learned from the Jovian short period planets too #exoplanets

Investigating the Influence of Asymmetric Errors on Retrievals of Exoplanet Transmission Spectra
In studies of exoplanet atmospheres using transmission spectroscopy, Bayesian retrievals are the most popular form of analysis. In these procedures it is common to adopt a Gaussian likelihood. However...

Today ‘s 5787 known exoplanets from NASA’s Exoplanet Archive overlaid on the Gaia EDR3 star map of the Milky Way. Transiting planets account for nearly 3/4 of confirmed detections. If we just built 360 more Keplers, we could finish this thing. 🔭🪐

At the Habitable Worlds Observatory Retrieval Workshop we explored several open-source codes to fit exoplanet reflected light spectra ('retrieval'). 🪐 I gave a review talk on exoplanet retrieval methods, demonstrating how HWO reflection spectra can detect and constrain the O3+CH4 biosignature.
Plots demonstrating that the Habitable Worlds Observatory can detect both molecular oxygen and methane in the atmosphere of an Earth-like exoplanet.

Left: a simulated reflection spectrum of an Earth-like exoplanet with a model overplotted. The model shows absorption features from the gases O3, O2, H2O, and CH4.

Right: histograms showing statistical constraints on the fraction of the planet's atmosphere comprising CH4 and O3.
