The gov’t has no right to GIL IP. Drug discovery and clinical trials cost 10’s millions. You also conveniently leave out that GIL gave up IP rights to antiretrovirals to the MPP and some generic companies to make them cheaper for low and middle income countries. Didn’t fit the narrative, I guess.

Disturbing to see the gaslighting here. Your problem is with for profit healthcare. Profits at Gilead from antiretrovirals drove drug discovery and clinical development for LEN. The molecule was discovered in GIL labs, by their scientists. The US gov’t had zero to do with its development.

Didn’t ask for your medical records. Investigating whether a death occurred or not isn’t illegal, police and journalists do it all the time. Also, given that he is the Senate Majority Leader, the 1st Amendment and informing the public interest weigh heavily in my favor to ask questions.

That’s good. It still doesn’t preclude people from investigating a death. You can check publicly available sources, death certificates (and the laws that govern them), 911 calls, don’t ask about medical info specifics,etc. HIPPA doesn’t stop anyone from asking people “anyone seen Mitch?”

Investigating a death has nothing to do with HIPPPA. The Act has to do with private medical information, it doesn’t apply to merely investigating and asking questions. First Amendment has you covered on the investigation part.

HIPPA has little to do with it. The act doesn’t preclude you from doing investigative journalism of a possible death. May make it more difficult but HIPPA doesn’t suspend the First Amendment.
