Get a grip, Labour. This complies with the law, but the law as it stands now is an ass. Legislate to provide trans women with the safety, rights and protection they deserve.

David Tennant as Archie Rice in The Entertainer is inspired casting. Very few actors can pull off this most magnificent of modern roles. Branagh didn't quite manage it, Robert Lindsay did. I suspect Tennant could make this a truly great production. Well done to The Almeida.

The Times, eh? Perish the thought that *mum* might pay for the flights or the hotel, or that they might share the costs. And then they've paid for a hotel in the first sentence, but are staying in a villa by the fourth. Standards, dear people. You're supposed to be our newspaper of record.

Not only cheats, but utter scum. This is disgusting from Man City fans at Anfield yesterday. #LFC

When Trump is finally called to account for his complicity with Russian war crimes in Ukraine, I hope the prosecutors bring out this devastating, heartbreaking photo from yesterday. My heart goes out to these poor, poor people.

Love this banner from FB this morning. Hopefully those lucky enough to be at Anfield this afternoon will leave the Man City cheats in no doubt what the country thinks about them. #YNWA #LFC

Love this from Dame Judi Dench about Madame de Sade. She's invariably magnificent on stage, but this play was dire. Other than for the fact that in the group I went to the show with was a rather amazing woman I'd not met before that weekend - who's now my wife.

John Crace magnificent in the Guardian about the Tory shadow chancellor: "If Andy really is the future chancellor, then we are truly fucked."

I adored "Tartuffe" when I read it for A Level all those years ago, but I've never seen it on stage. This adaptation was everything you could hope it to be. Absolutely magnificent. Sir Mark Rylance in sparkling form, but the whole cast are superb. Hugely, hugely recommended.

Polanski not having the courage to vote on such an important issue. He really is a lightweight.

Realised yesterday as I walked over Tower Bridge that I'd never actually seen it open. And I've always wanted to see the SS Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world. Two ambitions sorter at once. Quite wonderful, with those on the boat and on the bridge cheering as she sailed under.

The average salary for a deputy head in England is nowhere near this. Could Badenoch explain how exactly many deputy heads with three kids getting a huge pay rise meet her criteria each year? The Tories: as ever, for the few not the many.

Window seat with a view, in the lovely new(ish) food court next to Tower Bridge. Are there many / any better lunchtime views in the world?

Fantastic pre-gig Syrian food. And great hospitality, which remains me of the wonderful warmth and kindness of the people I met in that amazing country when I visited before the awful tragedies that have befallen it since.

Israel's actions in Gaza, the West Bank and other neighbouring countries are utterly abhorrent. But Zack Polanski is now refusing to say whether he believes Israel has a right to exist. And I think that's appalling from a leader of a UK political party.

Yeah, right: the majority of homes worth over £1.5m are owned by Labour voters. Seriously? The Times is becoming even more blatantly biased than ever. Our newspaper of record should at least pretend to be honest.

The Times reports that academics have held a conference to discuss people shagging in the back seats of driverless taxis. Whether they think there should be more or less of it isn't explained, but bookings for Waymo will presumably increase rapidly.

I watched South Liverpool regularly in the Northern Premier League, as a kid. They went bust 35 years ago. Their former ground Holly Park is now under a train station. For the first time since, the phoenix club reached the first qualifying round of the FA Cup today. This makes me so, so, so happy.

This is amusing, from the JL Partners home page. Given the Channel 4 sting on dodgy funding for the polls they carried out for Reform, I suspect a different type of "conviction" is on the agenda for them in the near future.

Burnham vs Badenoch perfectly summarised. One has committed to ending homelessness. The other announces a policy that will make struggling people struggle more, and increase it. She truly is awful.
