England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

Resources are finite. If we can feed 80 billion animals yet can't feed 8 billion people, that is a choice made by all non-vegans. A fraction of the land could grow crops for the world. Those who think they’re forward-thinking good people yet haven’t gone vegan aren’t congruent with their ethics.🌱✌️☯️

Plaid Cymru has long called for greater powers over areas like policing, the Crown Estate and rail. The Prime Minister has said today he's open to seeing greater devolution to Wales. That's the difference having a Plaid Cymru Government that stands up for our nation makes.

Big oil knew the truth in the 1970s. They buried the science and lit the fuse. Today, we pay with wildfires, floods, and famine. This isn't a climate crisis,it's a climate betrayal. Demand accountability, not greenwashing. #ClimateJustice #FossilFools

Let's talk carbon math: 1 tonne of CO₂ melts roughly 3,000 kg of glacial ice. While your daily choices matter, 70% of global emissions come from just 100 corporations. Change your habits, but never stop demanding systemic reform. #CarbonFootprint #SystemChange

Almost every child on Earth is now exposed to at least one major climate hazard — heatwaves, floods, droughts, storms, or wildfires. The people who contributed least to the crisis are suffering first and worst. Climate justice isn’t optional. It’s the only path forward.

A “hyperscale” datacentre in outer London would generate more than 1m tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. Not compatible with Net Zero. What devolution/democracy? Local councils bypassed, people ignored by Ministers chasing growth. Datacentres produce few long-term jobs, guzzle energy.
