When I was about 10, I spent a whole week's allowance to get 20 mins at an internet cafe. I wrote down websites in advance that I was excited to visit from a list of "cool sites" in a kids magazine. Half the time was spent waiting for the sites to load but it was still magical. Can we ever go back?

That's a fair opinion! I think the only place where we differ is that I think many jobs being lost are less due to actual low skill and more due to a low exec understanding of what those jobs really entail. I think (hope?) they'll learn that the hard way later, but we'll see.

I honestly think the doomer angle is another ploy to make people think AI is more powerful and important than it is. It's still not turning a profit and they need outside intervention to make a smokescreen that helps them get out with the investor money before the house of cards falls over.

I used to have a neighbour who was always outside and knew whose car was whose. He came knocking if I forgot to move it in time for the sweeper, it saved me getting a ticket, I brought him over a bottle of wine to say thanks. I saw people bringing him wine weekly 😁 He's my community role model!

People always over-zest and it gets bitter! I keep citric acid in the cupboard for when I want citrus dessert to taste fruitier and it works super well. It's like salt for soup
