JonGlue @jonglue.bsky.social · 9hTBF it wasn't implemented in Ukraine before the invasion either, and they'd already had Crimea as a wake-up call. Voters will not react in advance of a crisis, which makes it difficult for politicians who want to do things that cost money. 110
JonGlue @jonglue.bsky.social · 12hCorn husks, shucked of their context! I'm imagining the tool. Being poor and single increases food waste, in my experience - buy three for two, and end up chucking one away. JonGlue @jonglue.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I think it's more about the dynamics between central and peripheral control during periods of rapid expansion. Sure Labour experienced it when they (deliberately) reduced fees to increase membership, but you can see the same processes in other structures - charities, companies limited by share etc. 000

JonGlue @jonglue.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The problem is that the 'housing ladder' is now hard-baked into policy. With approx. 1/3 of first-time buyers receiving parental support, even left-leaning parents will see their first responsibility as to their children. So it's politically necessary to get the money from older adults another way. 000
