There’s a vein of “don’t mock appearance,” but I do think you can derive intelligent conclusions about someone’s choices about how they present themselves. This type of dress suggests to me either impunity over how he looks, disdain of the idea of looking good, or a profound lack of self awareness.

As far as I can tell the idea of schools putting kids on hormones is just a complete fantasy. How or why would the school be involved with that?

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

way back in the before times, like the proto-early-internet rumor days (early 2000s), there was definitely a persistent rumor that Helen Keller was a virulent racist and antisemite, which was presented either as A. Look at this idiot or B. Proof that even Helen Keller could see the "Truth"

I don't love dunking on folks but it's so fucking funny to me that Trump was convicted of 34 felonies 2 years ago, faced no punishment, and went on to win the presidency a second time and journalists are still like, "hmm, I have an inkling that maybe he believes he's above the law for some reason."
Post from NYT reporter Eric Lipton

"What an odd moment in United States history.

A U.S. president is running an overtly political campaign advertisement, right before midterm elections, paid for by the U.S. government.

Trump appears to believe he is immune from any kind of legal limit."

Today, I see angry young men online LARPing as Catholics, often for the aesthetic. They celebrate strength and hate the weak. The use slurs against the disabled and fantasize about enacting Crusader violence against their enemies. I wish the Pope would speak directly on this.

No, it's the Pope who is wrong!

Not really the point but the way modern media wrote headlines is infuriating. It’s all just clickbait at best, ragebait at baseline.

It's really weird to me that when presented with Discourse Item of the Day! (tm) people don't just scroll on by when it's facially silly. Maybe you've got a bizarrely strong feeling about job interview etiquette, but what makes you think that the world must conform to your opinions on it?

Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

At this point, with the AI companies admitting they cannot always predict or control the products, the default should be that the user and company are jointly and severally strictly liable for harms to third parties.

It’s probably some perfect solution to a set of equations that maximizes both potential influence while also maximizing potential controllability. Like in no world do the three you name jump their Pattons, but they’re each well suited to influence their respective audiences

One impeachment trial a month until he's gone. Make the Senate a permanent court while Trump holds office. Be clear about "It will be this way until we've run out of worthy crimes" so everyone's clear about the gig. Make John Roberts loathe his work.

All joking aside, what a profoundly miserable way to live. Just going through life terrified and infuriated by the very possibility that someone lives their life differently than you do or how you think they should. One life to live, and they spend it angry and scared at all times. Pathetic.
