CicLAvia forever. Sat in the shade for lunch on Santa Monica Blvd with my kiddo. An otherwise impossible level of ease. You can really feel it, deep down, when you sit outside and spaces are open and the sights or sounds of cars aren’t tugging at the edges of your brain.

So by all means, give to any community organization that is helping people who need help. The needs are many and luckily so are the helpers. But the list of *actual* villains and grifters in our lives right now is long enough as it is without this.

Perhaps most importantly: the Red Cross is fundamentally independent from the government with a mission to prevent and alleviate suffering of any and all people. We do not have to follow any order that would contradict this. And the government can’t cut our funding because they don’t fund us!

Molly, respectfully: this article manages to both reflect real frustrations and shortcomings while also being misleading. Six new homes was the total built. But insinuating that’s the *only* thing the Red Cross did is misleading. And it’s incorrect to think the Red Cross isn’t helping now.
