Thank you for this. I’ve not seen those posts/memes you’ve mentioned, but they seem awful and not right at all. I’ve already lost 2 friends/colleagues to suicide, one of them just last month, and it’s heartbreaking.

PSA: Don't ever joke about suicide. Not EVER. I'm talking about cutesy little social media posts like "I got coffee so now I don't need to kms 🥰". I'm talking about that "killing myself: postponed" meme. I'm talking all of it and I'm done with making "gentle reminders" about it.

The US Has Admitted For The First Time That It Placed Weapons In Space – What Does This Mean?
It is likely not the first time that weapons have been placed in orbit, but the admission is still consequential.

some amazing things happening over on threads — ever since they “shut down CERN”
CERN has to be real. Why do the days magically feel longer again? I keep looking at the clock in disbelief.Honestly... I can feel the immediate difference with CERN turning off. It's like turning off the annoying big light in the house that's been on for last 4 years. It's like finally getting some quiet after being immersed in a screaming heavy death metal concert or rave for days and days. It's like there's no restrictions. No hindrances. No more delays. I feel free. They turned off CERN and now the days feel twice as long. I'm TIREDCall me crazy, whatever ya whatever you want but since CERN shut down their machine time IS slower (i saw somewhere that our minutes are actually 60 seconds long again after being 45 seconds since COVID, ive had a mild frontal headache for 2 days and just had this weird energy around me. I can't be the only one, right?!

Wow. That’s hostile on their part. I stopped using Gmail as my main email provider many years ago, and moved to Fastmail using my own domain, and you can set it up in reverse, where your Gmail gets fetched and visible in Fastmail, and I can also reply/send-as from my Gmail address if necessary.

I'm standing where countless others have stood before me, looking up at the same night sky, catching ancient light from stars millions of light-years away.

"Carrying the Light" It's incredibly humbling, for me to be standing at a site that's 6000 years old. This is a Neolithic dolmen (burial mound), that was converted into a Christian chapel in the 17th century. #astrophotography #nightscapes #landscapeastrophotography #milkyway
A small white-and-blue chapel, originally a 6,000-year-old Neolithic dolmen, sits nestled among cork oak trees under a vast Milky Way in the dark Alentejo sky.A man in a bright orange jacket stands with his back to the camera, holding a lantern that casts a warm pool of light on the dirt path. The Milky Way arches overhead as he passes the whitewashed dolmen-chapel on the right.

This is the result of 8.3h from a Bortle 4 site, shot over two nights, using different narrowband filters, to capture the light in H-a, S-II and O-III wavelengths, stacked and processed in PixInsight.

This has been an elusive target for me, which I've attempted to image many times over the last few years, only to be disappointed because it is quite dim. It needs either a LOT of integration (exposure) time, or imaging from a darker site than my backyard, to get a higher signal to noise ratio.

A couple of recent targets I imaged and processed in PixInsight. NGC 7000 the North America Nebula, and NGC 6992 the Eastern Veil Nebula. Both captured using 2 different dual-narrowband filters, to get H-alpha, Sulphur-II and Oxygen-III wavelengths of light. #astrophotography #ngc7000 #ngc6992

I like the SHO version better. It’s definitely shows more details with the addition of S-II data. I’ve just recently processed my own data of the same target and didn’t like the mapping of H-a to the green, so switched it around and did it HSO instead

Also been building a CLI tool with Claude Code to help me catalog and keep track of it, what targets I’ve imaged, equipment used, total integration times, etc, so that I know which ones are ‘ready’ for processing.

Been doing some re-organizing of my astro imaging data, that i’ve been procrastinating for far too long. I didn’t have a proper filing system when I started 3 years ago, and have gone through a few different folder hierarchies before settling on one earlier this year.

Photographing the Milky Way looks harder than it is — a short list of camera settings and one good, dark, moonless night. I wrote down the exact setup I use: RAW, manual focus, the real shutter/ISO numbers, the lot. jonathanpoh.photography/milky-way-ph... #astrophotography

Been avoiding all the ragebait and seemingly negative vitriol towards Starfleet Academy, and holding any judgement of my own until later. Enjoying it so far though, even though it is quite a bit different in format to the others.
