The least they could have done is written this absolute tripe themselves instead of delegating it to an AI.

Renowned genocidal maniacs Jane Austen, JMW Turner and Alan Turing. Churchill is obviously controversial but other British icons are available.

Goodwin is being an idiot as per but I think it would be a shame if we don’t go back to historical figures and if that’s the case, it would smell of the BoE being fearful of wading into any culture wars. Every country needs national heroes and we should still look at promoting them.

I really don’t know if Burnham’s proposed solutions for social care will be good but I give him immense credit for making it such a centrepiece for his agenda because social care desperately needs all the help it can get. Turns out as PM you can use the bully pulpit.

The usual moral “I’ll support anything as long as the rosette is red” voids in the replies to this. The reality is that Sunak did take real political damage in sacking Braverman and taking the whip from Anderson. Starmer and Burnham both useless on this.

If only there were some legal term for where 12 or more persons who are present together use or threaten unlawful violence for a common purpose and the conduct of them (taken together) is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety.

I loved how the Jimmy Carter presidential museum contained so many examples of peanut related campaigning products. However, they could have made a killing by selling some in their gift shop (primarily from me).

Obviously race played a role but it’s a little disingenuous to say the story should be just about plagiarism. It was about a fantasist who created outlandish claims like being one of the best long distance runners in the world. The public love stories like that, see Anna Delvey or Elizabeth Holmes.

I feel that Cambridge probably still hold the greatest responsibility. They helped to pile on the tinder for the press to light. Even if it hadn't been kept it in the news for multiple days, with the way social media is and how transatlantic the culture wars are he would've still been piled onto.

She’s been a lot more reasonable in interviews I’ve seen with her about Nolan’s Odyssey and even though I agree with a lot of her main points, the LRB piece felt far too hackish and I’m surprised it hasn’t been edited better.

I met a Japanese guy in Tokyo who had done a year abroad in Manchester and he told me how much he missed meal deals and squashies which I was a little baffled at considering how much better Konbinis are than Tesco expresses.

I genuinely cannot understand how the Labour government has now had two, genuinely cultured prime ministers who both looked at Lisa Nandy’s record there and went “I’m pleased with this. I want this to continue.”

Tuchel messed up his substitution in the Norway game by bringing Eze on. The difference there is he used the subs left to rectify his error. Here it was clear by 80 mins that the gamble was not paying off and he still had two changes to introduce an outlet and/or take more midfield control.

Honestly think Madueke should have started in spite of his bad form. Even if he doesn’t play well, he can tire out the fullback and as Spence shows, his pace will trouble them, softening them up for Saka at 60 minutes.

The snickometer works! The Croatia situation is different in that it’s about it being needlessly sensitive (the Croatian player admitted it touches his hair). I don’t like FIFA but it’s silly to attribute a cover up, it would’ve been insane to disqualify the goal purely based off vibes.

I feel like I’m fighting a one man battle against the world but I see no evidence the ball hits the wire. The camera moving plus a bit of back spin gives the appearance of the ball changing trajectory from the main view but there’s zero evidence of any contact other than vibes.

Is Haaland playing against a Man City centre back pairing more beneficial for the defenders or the striker? I suppose they’re both proactive and reactive positions.

Every lifelong football fan I've ever met is like "I think players are supposed to serve their suspension" and every adult convert is like "the Archon of Constantinople's epistle on the Pentacostine rites of the eucharist clearly states handballs are mandatory."

But I know they can play cause I remember three lions on a shirt. What is being a football if not living in hope, especially after that performance.

That is how you get written into England folklore. I’m so glad I got up at 4am Armenian time for that. Jude world class, Gordon as a workhouse runner who offered a great outlet, Pickford’s best performance of the tournament, Dan Burn everywhere nullifying Mexico’s crosses. Bring on Norway.

I don’t know what I expected against a Carlos Quieroz side. That man is the bane of my existence. Even when I wanted the team he was managing to win, he terror balls me into frustration.

It’s pure post-Fergie brain. When you have a pundit class made up of so many former United players it’s inevitable.

My friends and family who don’t follow football think I’m being hyperbolic when I talk about Kane as the best player in the world at the moment. I don’t do ifs, buts and maybes, I do absolutes. He is!!!

Two goalkeeping disaster classes allow for more drama but I was rather disappointed by a Colombia who really dropped the tempo. Unfortunately James doesn’t seem to have the legs anymore.

Looks what happens when you press… There have been quite a few goalkeeping shockers this tournament.

I don’t know if I’ve been spoiled by Tommy Tuchel’s pressing menaces but Colombia just look so passive. Yes James Rodriguez legs have gone and the altitude has an affect, but they’re certainly good enough to impose themselves more.

I’m not sure it does. This Ghana team is really poor, especially if they persist with Ayew up top. If they concede a bunch against England their goal difference situation gets very messy.

Why was Hansi Flick such a failure at Germany when he did so well as assistant and at club football? Fant really remember the mitigated circumstances other than a golden generation being fazed out.

Glad someone has pointed it out. I agree that Europeans and liberal Americans can be too snobbish about ‘middle America’, but it did all reek a bit too much of chasing views from Americans wanting to get one over ‘europoors’.

This is an unfair comparison. In Qatar they were far shorter than the frankly ridiculous 3 minutes. There have been times where the players have been ready to go but the ref asked them to hold because of ads playing on TV. There are hydration breaks even when the weather is cool like the Ghana game.

My favourite game of the tournament so far. Goes to show it’s often jeopardy more than quality of football that determines its memorability. Rezaien and Wood both superb. Hope the night shifts in the coming days prove to be as quiet to allow me to watch all the early morning games.

Blatter’s ultimate goal was the narcissistic endeavour of using Football and FIFA as a means of getting himself a Nobel Peace Prize. Infantino just seems to enjoy hanging out with dictators.

Interesting storylines: - How Iran, their diaspora fans and the US authorities respond to the political tensions - How the USA will take to 'soccer' and being host nation - Bielsa's Uruguay imploding or somehow tapping into an underdog mentality - Haiti and DRC giving hope to their home nations
