"don't get left behind by ai." by Jane (@janebwriting on IG)
"don't get left behind by ai."

so leave me behind. leave me with the long speech written by ink-stained hands for the best friend dressed in white silk. leave me in art galleries and bookstores and theaters that house decades of ghost stories. leave me with the family photograph where the dad is blinking and the cousin is talking with the aunt and the dog is a blurry smudge. leave me with the typos. leave me deep in the forest with only the hum of the honeybees and the rush of a stream. leave me with the flyer drawn up by a local artist or designed in a rush on canvas or scribbled on a piece of lined paper. leave me with the google search that pulls me down a rabbit hole. leave me on the couch on a tuesday night, white wine in hand, crying "how do i get over him?" to the sister. leave me at the computer, typing an email that takes up only thirty fucking seconds of my time.

leave me behind with the things that make us human.

Why would a genAI proponent and user be upset that people could determine their text was created by genAI? You'd think they'd want to put "Powered by Claude!" on the cover. But they know that would hurt sales. So instead, they want to be able to hide the fact.

"Managing Humans" by Rands was one of my favorite books as a new engineering manager, so seeing this is a bummer. If you're using genAI to build your next book and are rage-quitting over watermarks, that means you're hiding your AI usage from your audience. randsinrepose.com/archives/rip...

I've used Claude quite a bit for both the upcoming new book and the next edition of Managing Humans. I wrote the entire book, but, as I've done for years, I've

I spent too long last night trying to see if the protagonists work in a glue factory or are beekeepers. Couldn't find anything.

I'm reading the tea leaves in the original screed, but I'm guessing she's from the crowd that dislikes experts and, seemingly, likes parasite lettuce. You can't "common sense" yourself into a deep understanding of the state of AI but you can just... ask experts. Heck, there's experts on both sides.

Pretty excited to be attending the Software Crafters Unconference Online. I really like the open space / lean coffee format and I'm hoping there's space to talk about how people are using agentic coding with pairing / mobbing. scunconf.com

You have to be incredibly out of touch with reality to not see the cost and benefit of buying higher quality items in your day to day life. My home's roof has a huge warranty because I was able to afford a factory certified installer and didn't have to go with "some dude in a truck".

In the middle of reading a book and noticed one chapter near the end was 1.5h compared to the other 20m chapters. Figured that'd be the big climax with lots of action. Nope, it's a brain dump of world building, presumably setting up the second book. Bleh.

The sad part is that I'm old enough (and online enough) to have watched it being born. Robb Wolf, of The Paleo Diet, theorized that the omega balance in seed oil was bad (more omega 6s than 3s). That was followed by every CrossFit bro with a podcast claiming they're poison, estrogen, etc.

Ah, I think we're talking about two different features. "When lockdown mode is enabled, fingerprint sensors, facial recognition, and voice recognition do not function...the only way to gain access to your device is either via PIN, password, or pattern. " www.zdnet.com/article/how-...

Enabling it is easy but there is one caveat.

Are you saying the Android "Lockdown" mode doesn't accomplish the same thing? I thought the whole point of that feature was to require a pin instead of biometrics.

Honestly was a game changer for me. I tend to get huge pieces and second skin helps so much with the pain. In my experience, they've healed better too. I get the Saniderm brand on Amazon but have had artists apply the 3M and Second Skin brands too. The only one I didn't care for was Derm Shield.

Jon Campbell @jon.camp · 28/05/2026
I usually change the first one after 24 hours because of fluid build up and then put on a fresh one for ~4 days. I prefer the way things heal under second skin -- mostly because it's less ouchy for me.

OpenAI and Microsoft literally described artificial general intelligence (AGI) as generating $100 billion in profits. These people aren't serious about actual artificial intelligence, they just want money printers in whatever form that takes.

I can only assume the investors and/or their sons weren't getting enough matches due to their publicly stated beliefs. So now they'll train an AI model to ignore those limiting factors.

Given the site seems to be using AI slop to reform the bad actors in our community, there are a few despicable people I'm surprised aren't featured. Maybe they need to pay some sort of protection fee first.

Also... You can already control how websites render on your computer. Adblockers are the most well-known example of this, but there are plenty of other extensions and scripts to change colors, extract information, etc.

I agree with everything you wrote and I'm still glad that he didn't call them poor performers like Zuckerberg, Musk, etc. Every time I had to organize layoffs as a middle manager, it was awful seeing those actually responsible for the problems keep their jobs. The low performers were always execs.

One of the worst parts of this change is how it punishes the loyal monthly subscription customers. They get less V-Bucks each month for their money PLUS the four battle passes they pay for each year give less V-Bucks. It's the equivalent of raising $144/year cost to $200 without admitting it.

After a free preview, Blink wants me to pay $8/month more for AI descriptions of the video clips from my camera. During the preview, the descriptions were always useless (e.g. "a person is walking in the room") and one time scared my wife (it mistook a shadow for a person.) Who asked for this?
