Summary:

”This spell embodies our clan’s ancestral values of consensus and balance,” Lan Zhan’s brother says. “Right now, both of you are in Mr Wei’s body. In three days, both of you will be in Ah Zhan’s. And so on, back and forth, ad nauseum. The only way to lift the spell is for both of you to embody everything it represents, completely and wholeheartedly, of your own volition.”
Or: After a heated argument, Lan Zhan unwillingly finds himself sharing a body with his greatest rival, Wei Ying.

Ahh? Me? actually writing and publishing a fic?? and it's not PWP??!! :0 archiveofourown.org/works/77784656

Digital illustration of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian from Tian Guan Ci Fu. They are sitting on the floor in a dark room, Hua Cheng curled on Xie Lian's lap. Xie Lian holds him, one hand resting on his head and the other around his waist, looking down with a soft expression. There is a large paneled window behind them, casting the room in a warm glow.

Screenshot of fic summary from AO3. Reads:

For now, he gives in to the pressure, lets it pull him down until he’s nestled on the stone floor next to his God. Lets himself rest his head, his empty eye socket throbbing like his still heart once did, and remains there. The cool brush of stone arms around him are never enough, but he knows it’s more than he ever has deserved.

——

A very self indulgent fic where Hua Cheng finds comfort in the strong arms of his husband.

that’s okay i meant to cry anyway

But this is to misunderstand the purpose of fan fiction. Fan fiction starts with the itch of dissatisfaction, it is the art of emotional correction. When what is canon fails to deliver, the fan fiction writers step in, armed with Word documents and righteous indignation. You think this character deserved more hand-holding? Fine. Someone out there is writing 10,000 words of forehead kisses and mutual healing right now.
Because fan fiction isn't just rewriting, it's repairing. It's giving yourself the closure you need when the author won't. It's deciding that pain can end differently, that love can be louder, that characters who were doomed in print get to live this time. It's literature written by people who refused to move on and sometimes these people spell really badly (and that is completely OK).
And yes, it's rebellion. Against gatekeeping, against prestige, against the assumption that stories only count when they make money.
Fan fiction exists because readers loved something so much they refused to let it die.

"You'll know, you'll fall." All four pieces together at last! doing these were SO much fun, working with @echoandthevaskians.bsky.social and getting to listen to her wonderful sexy podfic, all in honor of one of my favorite hualian fics. what a treat!!! #hualian #tgcf #天官赐福

Art of modern au! Xie Lian and Hua Cheng lounging in bed kissing, while Hua Cheng masturbates and Xie Lian watches. They are still clothed, and lit by the warm orange light of a lamp.

San Lang lies on his bed, with Xie Lian kneeling over him, straddling his hips. They are both naked and San Lang has two fingers hovering on Xie Lian's lips, waiting for Xie Lian to take them in his mouth. Above them is a panel, showing a close-up of Xie Lian's face, his mouth open and taking in San Lang's thumb. Above that panel are written mme-anxious's words from the chapter, written in cursive, saying, "I really like your hands."

A side by side panel of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian in two different places. Hua Cheng is in a broom closet at a party, wearing a red button down shirt and black pants with chains across his right hipe and silver necklaces draping down his plunging neckline. He has a phone up to his right ear and his left hand is held over his mouth. The words, "Oh my God" are written in white off to the side.

In the right hand panel, Xie Lian lies, naked, reclined in San Lang's bed. He is erect and leaking, holding a phone up with his right hand, while using his left hand to push a large dildo inside of himself. His left leg is bent, toes pointed, his eyes are closed, and his mouth is open slightly with his tongue showing slightly.

Three panels of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian having sex. A close of them kissing, open mouthed, with Xie Lian's hands around Hua Cheng's neck is in the top panel, the second panel, mid-right, is a close up of Xie Lian's hole with Hua Cheng's cock in it, and the third picture, has Xie Lian folded in half, Hua Cheng leaning over them as they fuck on Hua Cheng's bed.
