I am so excited for this opportunity! Also, very grateful to the support from past and current mentors—particularly my PhD advisor Jeff Long and my postdoc mentor Nathan Gianneschi, but also many others along the way.

🚨 Now in #JACS : The Ayitou lab at #UIC has reported the first aerobic photon upconversion using all-organic donor-acceptor chromophores, which can perform doublet-to-triplet energy transfer (DTET). Read it here: tinyurl.com/3ycxa4rf

Doublet Spin State Mediated Photoluminescence Upconversion in Organic Radical Donor-Triplet Acceptor Dyads
Donor–acceptor dyads are promising materials for improving triplet-sensitized photon upconversion due to faster intramolecular energy transfer (ET), which unfortunately competes with charge transfer (...

Every December, for the past 17 years, I've been fortunate enough to put together collections of amazing images of outer space for a Space Telescope Advent Calendar. I just posted Day 1 of this year's edition, & will also share this year's images here on Bluesky. www.theatlantic.com/photo/2024/1...
Day 1: A grand spiral. The spiral galaxy NGC 5248, located 42 million light-years from Earth, is one of the so-called grand-design spirals, with prominent spiral arms that reach from near the core out through the disc. It also has a faint bar structure in the center, which is difficult to see in this visible-light portrait from the Hubble space telescope. Features like these, which break the rotational symmetry of a galaxy, can feed gas from a galaxy’s outer reaches to inner star-forming regions, and even to a galaxy’s central black hole.
