🎯 'A man raped her' instead of 'she was raped.' Have you ever read a headline that reads "A bank was robbed by a suspect?" Nope. It's "A suspect robbed a bank."

@mattbarrows.bsky.social Sooo… Did that touchdown happen because the defenders froze that extra millisecond because it was Mike Evans with the ball?? Or was it just Kyle Shanahan being the mad scientist he is, or both? I want to be #1 :)

@arimelber.bsky.social I don’t know if you follow pro football, but the bit you did with Mr. Kardouri(?) about tippling a little after work should’ve been a lead in to this week’s kerfuffle about one of my 49er heroes getting in trouble for play-acting celebrating a touchdown with a beer. 😆

Today’s book quote: Just started the latest Longmire book. Opens with a quote about the murdered guy: “The patriarch was not a complicated man, but he had a complicated life with business interest that span the globe” Sounds like our president! Apparently, the guy at the book was an asshole also!

“2001, a Space Odyssey” is on the Movie Channel. I will point out for the kids that this is a movie from 1968. It’s about the future 30 odd years away. It’s about a runaway computer named Hal!! (which is IBM with the letters transposed one off 🤣) Pretty slow going as a movie though.

The “branding dispute” being that it’s legally established as a memorial to John F. Kennedy, the president from the 1960s who was murdered in office by an assassin, and Trump wanted to slap his name on it too while he held power for reasons of pure narcissism.

It's like a parody, but it's deadly serious; the Commerce Department (which includes Census, NOAA, and others) has outright deleted "don't alter or suppress scientific findings for political reasons" from its scientific integrity rules. Seriously.
Protecting against "inappropriate influence" is no longer a "hallmark" of scientific integrity

The Commerce Department updated its policy for promoting a "culture of scientific integrity" in January 2025, days before Trump's second inauguration.

A new Trump administration order bans the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis from using statistical “noise,” or data for fuzzing survey results, to protect people’s privacy in their statistics.

The 2025 version included bans on attempts to shape or interfere in data collection, statistical analysis and other scientific activities "against well-accepted scientific methods and theories or without scientific justification."

The department's policy, the 2025 version said, involves ensuring scientific findings at its agencies "are not suppressed, delayed, or altered for political purposes and are not subjected to inappropriate influence," as well as making sure there's "independent review of facilities, methodologies, and other scientific activities as appropriate to ensure scientific integrity."

That language is missing, however, in the Trump administration's revision of the policy, according to an NPR analysis of text posted on the Commerce Department's website.

And while the revision adopts a definition for "scientific integrity" that is similar to the previous version, it no longer says that "protection from inappropriate influence" is among the "hallmarks of scientific integrity."
