Critical Mass are outside now, cycling the wrong way up a one way street and playing shit music so loud the building is shaking. And they wonder why people hate cyclists. Tossers.

I wondered whether there had ever been a J.S. Bach festival called Bachanalia, after a bit of a struggle (neither DuckDuckGo nor Mac OS believe I actually wanted to type that and resisted furiously), the prize goes to Staunton, Virginia. Well done, Staunton, on behalf of bad joke lovers everywhere.

"And after all You're a forgotten Swinging London film about a peeping tom With a slightly rubbish George Harrison soundtrack." Far be it for me to suggest that's an accurate description of the England team, but the fans seem to think so.

Given the natural advantage the Mexican team will have on account of the altitude, perhaps factors should be introduced to slightly advantage the England team and balance it out. Like both teams having to play after drinking ten pints of strong lager.

Thames Water have parked a gigantic vacuum cleaner right outside our flat, just in time for bed. Occasionally they turn it on, and I have to say it complements the sound of the pneumatic drill wonderfully.

Reports from outside suggest that Cuntstock is a lot smaller and more muted this time. Is that because the Hungarian money has gone away, or is it because the Kremlin money has been cut back?

Right. Going to commit a little light democracy. I'll need my passport, because democracy is another country, where they do things differently.

Microsoft Authenticator is the new Clipper, but somehow worse. In the name of security you spend your working life scrabbling for your phone and typing in numbers. The box to tick every day for the unmet promise of remembering you is a particularly nice touch. “Nice” in this case meaning “sadistic”.

So is all public policy change from now on going to be enacted via TV docudrama adaptations of old Private Eye articles? If so, who's going to play Ben Houchen in a couple of years' time?

I just looked it up. On WB Yeats' gravestone, it says: Cast a cold Eye On Life. On Death. Horseman pass by. Which slightly disappointed me, as I'd hoped it said: Tread softly Because you tread on my face.

The doorbell just rang. It was another person who's booked a stay in one of the flats here (the majority are now Air BnB or equivalent) asking how to get in. I have no idea, but don't want to become an unpaid concierge. In case anyone's wondering what happened to all the rentable flats in London.

A joke that's just barged into my brain and is making me laugh because that's how my brain works on a Friday night: What did the French waiter say, when he realised the carafe of water he'd just served had been poured the previous evening? "Eau d'hier!"

Not that anyone’s interested, but personally I think that anyone(no matter what their citizenship status) who’s worked and paid taxes for five years with the intention to carry on doing so should have full voting rights.
