Once again, the Supreme Court prioritizes imaginary harms done to Trump by not allowing him to indulge in his conspiracy theories, as opposed to the very real harm done to citizens who may lose the ability to vote in this case.

Couldn’t agree more with @nikobowie.bsky.social here. The whole “eh, real reform is too hard politically/ legally / whatever” argument is just giving up without even trying. Weak sauce.

SCOTUS allows Trump minions to use notoriously error-riddled database to target the entirely fake “scourge” of noncitizen voting *while acknowledging* that US citizens will be caught up in this mess AND harmed. SCOTUS reform MUST be at the top of the list for pro-democracy candidates for office.

This is on par with how important the Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin were over the last few years. Justice Earls is incredible, but she needs all the help we can give -- this is one of the most expensive races of any kind in NC history (and far and away the most expensive judicial race).

Great story in the LA Times over the weekend on the Trump Administration's potential plans to interfere in the midterms and, more importantly, what groups like @protectdemocracy.org, @democracyforward.org and others are doing to prepare and fight back. www.latimes.com/politics/sto...
It is designed to match what Trump’s opponents see as his three-part “interference playbook” — to “deceive” voters before the election, “disrupt” the vote itself and “deny” any unfavorable results after, said Justin Vail of Protect Democracy, a prominent litigant against the administration.

“The threats are real,” Vail said, “but the preparation is larger and more coordinated than ever before.”

Any deployment that intimidates voters or interferes with elections would be illegal. Should one occur, officials and civil society are prepared to challenge illegal acts so that voting can proceed uninterrupted.

Great stuff from my @protectdemocracy.org colleague linking corruption to both (1) the broken economy and (2) why most people hate politics (and politicians). Highly recommend you read the whole thing (gift link below): www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/m...
Another theory is that Americans feel worse off now than they did in 2017, and they are looking for someone to blame. “There’s two dominant sentiments in our politics now,” said Justin Florence, a founder of Protect Democracy, a watchdog organization established in Trump’s first term. “One is feeling that the economy and economic future doesn’t work for most Americans; the other is the political system is broken and Americans don’t have a say. Corruption ties together those two sentiments.”
