Jev has to be the most overhyped product of the year. Which wouldn't interest or bother me if they hadn't marketed it like snake oil. Evidence seems to point to it being just a slightly modified small Chinese LLM (probably ~10B active param Qwen), beaten by many now quickly vibecoded alternatives.

Opus has been extending the sim. In the cartoon economy, with what felt like reasonable cartoon assumptions, there are big knowledge to service shifts with AI but the real "left behind" hit is 90s automation/globalization. Getting back to 23% "Left Behind" ... is not impossibly hard ...

Wait until I add 2030 to the sim! I’ll get to the blog post eventually, probably around the time this all becomes very obvious. Over decades the work world has changed to greatly reduce demand for the only skills many people have. The sim is a cartoon illustration of this.

Not the least bit surprising but still extremely grim to read. time.com/article/2026...
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

One of my lifelong mistakes has been thinking humans are more rational than they really are. Most just react to their feelings. That's good in some cases, but strategically we should not assume logic plays much of a role. (One of the strengths of a democracy is measuring feelings.)

Black text on a white page that reads as follows:

Too often, homeless New Yorkers cycle from our hospitals to our streets — making it harder to continue treatment and find long-term stability.

The City's Bridge to Home program in Manhattan ends the cycle by providing a safe place for New Yorkers to live while they receive medical care, apply to jobs, and find an apartment. The program has been a massive success.

Today, we’re expanding Bridge to Home to Brooklyn and Queens, so more New Yorkers get the help they need.
