I think others had reverse-engineered it previously, but I didn't know of the format. Opus iterates on a python file that builds and signs the binary .shortcut file, the signed binary can't be edited. Testing is awkward. Opus was way too ambitious, the simple version is trivial.

Opus 5.5 (Claude Code) can sort-of create an Apple Shortcut now. It generates a (undocumented?) ".shortcuts" file format - a signed binary that user launches to add shortcut to icloud repository. It's not great at it, but I think a few weeks ago it could only guide me while I built the applet.

I tried out Claude artifacts today to see what export file formats are supported for export. For a document it's PDF or "Project HTML", but the "Project HTML" appears to be just a wrapper around cloud content. So you can't export and edit externally.

Some tech is implemented very quickly. CT scans in medicine. Huge return, no alternatives. Returns on ai mostly coding now. As I tediously note — they still can’t do a moderately complex personal income tax return. If they can’t do that by Fall 2027 I don’t think valuations will hold
