Worthwhile quote in attached image and alt-text revealing that 10% of those voting for him swung to him from Trump. The peace of mind that comes from affordability and economic stability is non-partisan and is alway #1 with the electorate.
Portion of reporting from Newsday's article:

Mamdani said 1 in 10 voters who elected him also voted for Trump, citing rising costs. He said 1 in 4 New Yorkers are living in poverty.

"When I asked those New Yorkers who they voted for and why, I met many who voted for President Trump. And they told me it was the affordability crisis, it was cost of living, cost of living, cost of living," Mamdani said. "And they said that they remembered being able to afford their rent, their child care, their ConEd, their public transit, more four years ago than they could in that moment."

If Mamdani wins I will leave New York. I will go live in one of the other 5 houses I have, perhaps the one in South Florida, or the one in Paris, or Napa, or Cabo, but I will definitely leave New York. I will keep my apartment, though, because it's awesome and New York is great. But I will leave.

Moreover, the Court is troubled by the implication inherent in Defendants’ argument that protest against the federal government, a core civil liberty protected by the First Amendment, can justify a finding of rebellion. The U.S. Reports are chock-full of language explaining the importance of individuals’ right to speak out against the government—even when doing so is uncomfortable, even when doing so is provocative, even when doing so causes inconvenience. See, e.g., Cohen v. California, 403 U.S. 15, 24–25 (1972) (“To many, the immediate consequence of this freedom may often appear to be only verbal tumult, discord, and even offensive utterance. … That the air may at times seem filled with verbal cacophony is, in this sense not a sign of weakness but of strength.”); Tinker v. BREAKING: Judge Breyer orders Trump to "return control of the California National Guard" to CA Gov. Newsom, finding that Trump's order taking control was illegal because it did not follow the required procedure. The order is stayed until noon Friday. More to come at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com
IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA
GAVIN NEWSOM, et al.,
Plaintiffs,
Case No. 25-cv-04870-CRB
v.
DONALD J. TRUMP, et al,
ORDER GRANTING PLAINTIFFS' APPLICATION FOR TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER
Defendants.
On June 6, 2025, the federal government initiated immigration raids across the City of Los Angeles. Protests swiftly followed, and some individuals involved in those protests were unruly and even violent. State and local law enforcement responded. The following day, President Trump ordered that members of the California National Guard be federalized, and thereupon assumed control of those forces.
At this early stage of the proceedings, the Court must determine whether the President followed the congressionally mandated procedure for his actions. He did not.
His actions were illegal both exceeding the scope of his statutory authority and violating the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. He must therefore return control of the California National Guard to the Governor of the State of California forthwith.
